Seems you are being a great help again. With all the issues trying to use the 231, I found a better option. Today for $400 I bought a low mileage 1967 Skylark (52,000 miles). It runs like a top. It has an automatic transmission on it. How would I know how to mount the flywheel balanced?

You can take it in to a machine shop have the flywheel resurfaced and balanced. Some guys go all out and have the crank pulleys, dampner, crank, and flywheel balanced but that's darn extreme. If mine, I'd simply have the machine shop resurface and balance. Since the skylark is a automatic, it does not have a flywheel. It has a flex plate. Few needed will be. flywheel, flywheel bolts, pilot bushing.

My 225 that i recently replaced came from a 66 Skylark with an automatic. I did nothing for balancing but put a dauntless flywheel on it and ran it. I had zero issues with it. Your results may vary.

An automotive machine shop can match the balance of the engine's flex plate to your flywheel.

You realize that, if the engine design needs the flywheel for balance, the flywheel will only go on one way?

I had understood that the 225 was external balance, and its flywheel has a big off-center knot to provide the engine balance. Recent posts here seem to contradict this, saying the Buick V6s are neutral balance. Maybe this is for the even-fire engines?

    I'm glad at least it's a 225 0dd fire to a 225 odd fire.
I had a 231 even fire with 20K miles on it, got it installed, and it had METRIC manifolds.
It was from a 1977 Regal.

Since then I have always used casting numbers to identify which heads and which exhaust manifolds mated.

    I went from a T14 to a TH350 for a few years
didn't make any changes other than the swap
didn't notice any balancing issues . even at idle
just assumed . the liquid and mass of torque converter . even things out
jeep was a lot quicker from 0 to 60 . just cause you didn't shift it
went and did the body work on floors ( tub off frame )
painted it green again  . just looked like the old jeep when I bought it
didn't feel right . swapped a stick transmission back into it
    hey it's only money right
