Spent some time in the garage trying to make sense of stuff.
Added some 1/4" strapping to the inside of the frame rails to help better distrubute the weight of the SM420 , but I forgot to take pictures.
Worked on the skid plate. I cut the original in two, added a plate, added the other half of the old skid, cut some more off and added an angle to protect the PTO on the transmission. I'm going to try and add a one inch piece of strap at an angle along the outer edge of the to make the whole thing more ridged.

Got my skid plate all welded up the other night, it's okay but it won't support the weight of the Jeep with out flexing, but it does spring back into place then.

I think I'm going to drill some drainage holes in it before I go and paint it.

    Quick update.

Still plugging along, the work still goes in spurts but the breaks have been getting shorter between them. I got the the new(er) 225 dropped in and installed the clutch, transmission and tranfercase going to button them up and install the overdrive after I flush them out. I replaced the timing chain as well but broke a few bolts off in the aluminum cover that the water pump bolts and have to drill them out now:mad:, I'll rebuild the oil pump before I put it back on though. like I said, slowly she's coming back together.

    Time for some Pictures!!!

Sorry but I deleted them from my facebook page. I'll see if I can get some new ones.

Start of the passenger side exhaust. I have the 12'' Cherry bomb dangling off the flex pipe till I get the tail pipe ran out to the rear of Jeep. It's running 2" pipe and advanced adapter headers.

    Slave cylinder mount.
And the rear shoes half installed I need that little oval plave the hold the shoes down on the pivot before I can finish it up, I think the local u-pull should have them.

After 5 years I finally fired her up:D, she was a little reluctant at first but when I got the timing figured out, (still needs properly fixed) she roared to life. It idles really fast and and still needs the final tuning done but she ran! Time to put this project to bed and move on to bigger more exciting things in life!jeep toss

I might have figured out my picture glitch.

Some pictures of how I mounted my gas tank
    [IMG]

I used a MTS poly tank for a intermediate CJ5. I ground off the rivets that held on the crossmember in it's original postion and moved it forward about two inches to give enough room to fit the bigger tank then drilled it and bolted it back into place. My original draw bar reinforcement was long so I used the side bars/braces off of an intermediate as well. The hoses and sending unit are all MTS as well, and belong on a '73.

I posted this in a different thread but here is my cooling fan and shroud
    [IMG]

Its a stock 2A radiator with the ports moved and the a 14" flex-a-lite fan.

That Motor Craft looks almost as big as the engine.

And a short video of it running

Spent some wrenching on it the last few months and have made some progress.

I realized the back end had rusted out and wouldn't support the weight of the swing away tire carrier out so I cut out all of the sheet metal added some bracing. It might be over kill but it should work.
I'll have a nice burn scar from this project.

    My "high speed" body mounts.
Raised it up about 1 an inch and three quaters. I used 7/16 bolts to attach the body to the frame.

Looking like a Jeep again with the 3A windshield frame, my head stuck up above the 2a frame and it was pretty rough.
If you look close you can see the the start of the Jeep's wiring and the MotorCraft 2100 bolted to the engine.

And a 33 stuffed under the front fender.

Still lots to do but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

Looking good, you're getting close. Those flat fender have a lot of space in the front for big tires, which is crazy. I know a guy who fit 38 up front just for fun, back was a no go.

Been doing some odds and ends lately, mostly trying to dial in the engine, the motorcraft 2100 is giving me fits. Trying to figure out the wiring one circut at a time.

Made a replacement rear panel and did the body mounts too.
    Inner bracing
    [IMG]

    The panel
    [IMG]

Hooked up some new gauges and a different speedometer, wired them up too.

Got the steering mostly worked out. Used XJ tire rods and cut them down, drilled and retapped them for the factory threads. It worked okay but I need to remove about 3" inches off the tie rod so I have some adjustment in the tie rod.

I used a Boregeson intermediate shaft for a '73 CJ. I chopped off about three inches to get it to the proper length, I cut it off the steering box end of the shaft, redrilled it like it was from the factory and painted it black.

Added my corner re-inforcement and swing away tire mount that was tied into all the braces I put in the back panel. I still need to cut the final radius of the wheel opening, I'm going to use allenhead machine screws to attached it when I do it for the last time.

    Slowly, but surely.

Well, it been awhile. Been busy with it though.

When I was installing the corners I noticed how bad the wheel wells where so I cut them out and reinforced them, so the roll bar would have a little bit more usefulness.

This was the driver's side the passenger side was the same.

This the passenger side after it was all finished. The driver side is about the same.

    Custom Toms wood drive shaft.

    Installed.

At some point in this time I ditched the motorcraft carb it just ran poorly I swapped out the the electric fuel pump for a manual one too.

Early stages of it's spray bomb paint job.

Corner all bolted in and the final color of the Jeep.

And how she sits right now.

    Howdy folks!!! Still chugging along.

Added a really important pice of sheet metal

    Painted the windshield satin black

Added a little humor to the skid plate

Installed the winsheild and a front fender flare.

Now it gets a little bit more technical. This is the set up I decided to run on this Jeep to make the disk brakes work a late 70's non power disc/drum Cj7 master cylinder mated to a Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve. I'm still not sure if I need residual pressure vavles or not, I'll see when I actully test drive it/bleed out the system.

The master for the clutch cylinder

    Got a little sticker crazy...

Sorry for losing most of the pictures here is the like to the Facebook album with all them in it. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=d5c0ec7be0

After been slowly messing with getting closer and closer, but I have run into a snag with the brakes.

The front calipers do not seem to release.
They will free spin after I bleed them out but will lock back up again after sitting for a little bit.
The pedal and pushrod are returning all the way back to rear.
I'm using a master cylinder from a late 70's CJ with manual Disk/drum set up
    A Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve
No residual pressure valves (I think my issue may lie here).
GM calipers and the appropriate pads.

I'm not sure if I could still have air trapped in the system or what to do. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
