If anyone knows anything about this please share, All I know is it has a Perkins diesel with a four speed, twin stick transfer case with an overdrive unit. I think it is either a 64 or 65 but I have net seen the title so not sure. All the posts about the build dates none of the sheets had 8310 on them. I am assuming this must be pretty rare with the 4 speed and diesel that does run and drive.

From details on the tub it appears to be mid- late 60's.

I just love that Jeep, that diesel motor looks awesome. I would definitely put one of those in my Jeep if I knew where to get them. I have a Ford Ranger engine slotted but I would reverse that in a second

Btw, is that two fuel tank nozzles? Do the tanks run long ways toward the front of the Jeep? Also, what size and kind of tires are those? Those look a lot like what came on my Jeep

There is actually three fuel tanks, the one under the seat and the two that are in the rear fender wells. There is a valve by the driver seat that switches between them. I will have to check on the tire size, I know they are recaps but not sure on the size. And yes it is a dark green paint inside and out. I know that all the gauges are aftermarket except for the Speedo.

Other than those hood emblems, that is a very nice Jeep.

Diesels are very, very rare, I would say extremely. I've seen pics of two factory diesels. That's it.

Very cool. How does it drive? I assume it is fairly slow but has lots of torque? And it appears to be in great shape.

Wikipedia says "From 1961 to 1965, optional for the CJ-5 and CJ-6 was the British-made Perkins 192 cu in (3.15 L) Diesel I4 with 62 gross horsepower (46 gross kW) at 3000 rpm and 143 gross torque at 1350 rpm."

It's a downgrade in terms of HP from the F134, which was rated at 71 HP (4000) and 111 ft-lbs of torque (2200). So the diesel is even more tractor-like than the F134, with less power and more torque at lower RPMs. I'd expect the highway performance of the Perkins to be not very different from the F134, though it should feel quicker off idle.

I recall the one example that I saw at the Jeep dealer had very impressive resistance to stalling. I did not see it, but they claimed that they could drive the Jeep up against the side of the shop building, let out the clutch, and it would not stall. Instead it would grind away the tires. Of course, this was with 60s era narrow tires, and I presume it was in low range.

No wonder they did not sell many of them. It pretty much takes the "worst" qualities of the F134 (ie down on power and speed), and exacerbates them. Kaiser's lack of marketing insight was showing.

The 225 had a much bigger impact on sales - my impression is that the CJ market was changing, and the V6 was an option that offered what most people felt was the main issue with the CJ: not too little torque, but instead too little power at too low an engine speed.
