Found a 84 cj7 in the yard by me last month and went back friday for the saginaw box on it. Figured out the seals today so hopefully I'll throw those on tonight or tomorrow at work and I can start putting the power steering parts back on8) The box I had was the same one I found friday and it locked up after a couple failed attempts to rebuild. Still don't know what the deal is. Don't care now.

Started the jeep up today and the belt was squeeling bad. It's done this for the last year but goes right away. Within the 2 minutes it took to get into the garage the alt bearing was so hot it smoked the pb blaster I sprayed on the housing.
Another trip back to parts store and I have a new bearing for it to put on also tonight or tomorrow.

Then, as I'm sitting there looking at the alternator, the radiator decides to start leaking coolent.
So I guess that makes up my mind of keeping the newer 70ish wider radiator grill for the original normal narrow 69 grill. Going to look into the mustang radiator swap and paint my old original grill for the 69. I really wanted to use it anyways since it's one of the few original parts from the 69 that I got back in 03. Then promptly wrecked the next day towing home...

I want to bring it to the willy's reunion if I can find a truck to use for that weekend.

    I'll get some pics soon...

The alternator wasn't the culprit. Think it's the water pump and lack of coolent from radiator leaking. I'll find out after I replace my radiator with the new 65 mustang one I got.

Yesterday I noticed too that the fuel was coming out of the vent tube again. Thump the carb and it would go down untill you goosed the throttle again.
Brought the carb to work today and found a dead bug stuck in the needle seat. must have crawled in thru the vent because it was on the bowl side of the seat. Hoping it was just that easy. I'll find out tomorrow on lunch hopefully.

The radiator is nice and new. Think it would work better on an fhead. The bottom outlet is in the way on the :v6:. Kinda gives me an excuse to replace the finger amputator with an electric fan. Found a 1/4" 18 thread npt switch/sending unit from summit and ordered it. I'll take a trip to the junk yard in town next week to look for a donor. Any suggestions for a good fit on a 65 mustang radiator?

I gave up on the mustang radiator. By the time I get everything to make it work I'll be able to recore the old one.

I dropped the old 71 style v6 radiator off at a local radiator shop on lunch I just found out about yesterday. He's going to look for new and get a price for new and recore.
I'll post what he finds especially if he finds a new one that isn't aluminum and $500+

Right now I'm thinking that I'll just get the radiator back on, paint the 71 grill and see if I can put the larger 69 park lights in it.
I have everything for power steering, and front driveshaft, just need to get exhaust for it when I do that, so I may wait till next winter to put that all back on. The stock exhaust is in the way of the driveshaft since I put the 2" lift on. The Ypipe is in the way.

Hope you find the radiator is cheaper than 500. I remember the sticker shock when I priced a radiator for my old flatty.

Several years ago I was quoted $450-$500 to recore mine. I found one new radiator at the time and it was $500+. For about $300 I bought a new, all aluminum Mustang radiator, new electric fan, and fan controller...:)

Think prices have gone up. I was quoted about $250 maybe 3-4 years ago. Called him back today and it will be abouy $385 to recore the 71 radiator. Might see if I can find anything at the willys reunion first. If I don't I'll probably bite the bullet on a recore. By the time I get a good new rad and fan I'm probably looking about the same price range.

Had to recore the radiator. Got it in though and I will not have to worry about it for a long time.
Got my overdrive case too so that went back together today and hope to install it soon.
Next is hoping to hit sos tomorrow after work to get plate renewed.
Planning to put the original mc setup back on the frame by end of week.

Darn mosquitos have chased me out of garage the last week.
