My 75 CJ-5

    I got the cam installed....cleaned water jackets out some more and cleaned heads. I will clean cylinders out really well then bolts heads down. This seven day a week work schedule doesn't leave much play time.

    I clear coated the top of intake and painted the bottom side with electrical paint. I also cleaned the baffle really well then mounted that.

    I see you order a hei unit!
    For cam gear and distributor gear are you going with brand new one of you'll keep the old one?

    I said that because those gear get matched together and when you change one it's better to change both.

    Also did you measure the transmission lenght? from where it bolt to the engine to the end of the rear yoke?

    I ordered the Bulltear distributor and matching gears. The Jeep came with a cheap HEI with a hardened gear that was slowly chewing cam gear. No, I haven't had a chance to measure anything, just have a lot going on. I'll try when I get a chance.

    Very nice job on the motor. I have a 79 CJ5 with AMC 360 mated to a TF727 and Dana 20. I used a scout tail houseing between tranny and transfer case cause it is a bit shorter than the Jeep one. With close to 4" of lift my skinny front drive line just kisses the oil pan on tranny. When right front is a full stuff.
    How much lift do you have and what is your tire size if you don't mind me asking. Also did you do a straight drive line or one with a carrier bearing in the front.

    This is a 304 bored .030 over which equates to roughly a whopping 310C.I. mated to a TF727 and Dana 20. Tire size is 33x12.5 on factory Renegade rims (I might run spacers for the fact front wheels hit springs at full turn). I'm not sure on the lift, I'm guessing it's about 4" total with shackles and springs. The front shaft is a straight solid shaft with slip joint and u joints front and back.

    your engine is coming along nicely, you aren't going to leave those valve covers like that are you?

    your differential cover looks like it could take a beating.

    Valve covers will be bead blasted and painted same color. The insides were nasty, from years of neglect. I had to use a lot of purple power and a bristle brush to clean. Yes, the diff covers are very beefy and I also used lube locker gaskets with them.

    I primed oiling system with my half inch drill motor and modified distributor....plenty of oil to cam gear and a ton to the rockers. Looks like all will be good as far as oiling is concerned.

    beautiful, keep up the good work.

    say what type of primer do you put down on the valve covers? or is it not needed

    I didn't use any primer accept on the aluminum pieces. I blasted valve covers in a media blast cabinet, then douched them with parts cleaner and sprayed with VHT engine paint.
