The clutch is finally starting to go out in my Willys. Its starting to slip and chatter alot and has begun to smell. But what I would like to know is if the flywheel is balanced to the crankshaft or if the flywheel is balanced separately from the crankshaft?

If I remember correctly it will only go on two ways because of the way the bolts are shaped, but I don't think it makes a difference either way.

When I did my clutch, i remember it could only go back on one or two ways becase of the tapered bolts. pay attention to to which way the bolts got in, i did my mine twice because is put the bolts in trought the wrong side,so just pay attetnion, take picutres. You could get the whole rotating assembly balanced at machine shop if you want.

Ok thanks I have seen pictures of the tapered crankshaft to flywheel pins and do those have to come off in order to remove the flywheel also? Or do they stay in the crankshaft when the flywheel is removed?

The pins stay on the crank. Hopefully you won't need to remove the flywheel at all.

Personally, I always have the flywheel surfaced when I do a clutch job. It's the easiest time to do it and it's not very costly. But that's just me - to each his own.

I'm planning on getting the flywheel resurfaced I just didn't know if the pins stayed in the crankshaft or not.
