I have a 134 F head from a 1950’s jeepster. I purchased it from a jeepster builder/ restorer in Florida, besides changing to different front plate and the right tooth count flywheel ring rear I plopped this engine into my ‘56 CJ 5. All seems well and the engine runs fine but, I have been double checking my engine work while I get into the brakes and have been reading about Crank case ventilation and have a concern, the jeep is set up as follows:

I am running a vented cap in my valve cover, this is the valve cap/cover that came with the engine. Also, this the only place you can fill the Oil from ( I have never seen this set up on jeep f head before only jeepsters)
The dip stick has no vent tube fitting on it and is a low stubby style plug. Different from the tall vented dip stick/ filler tube that is in the jeep service manual
I plumbed the air cleaner tube to the fitting in the head under the carb ( Black tube in the picture below )
The vacuum line that runs from the side valve cover had what looked like a PCV on it but, I removed it the line and PCV all together, the PCV valve that is came with was always open and allows you to blow air through it. ( the PCV maybe bad ).
When I temporally plumbed the vacuum line that runs from the side valve cover vacuum line with PCV inline to the fitting in the head under the carb, the jeep would not idle it would die with gassing it. When i did this the oil bath vaccuem tube was not hooken up
So I took it off and am only running plumbing from the air cleaner to the fitting in the head under the carb, and she runs and idles fine
Currently the side valve cover vacuum line with PCV valve is plugged with a 1/8" plug. Is this bad idea? (see picture Below)

My question is do I have this plumbed right ?

Should I be running a PCV valve inline to the head? Should I run also run a “tee” at the head and plumb the Oil bath filter vent tube and vacuum line/ PCV line to that “Tee”.

    Thanks

Clean out the PVC valve so it works correctly then reconnect it between the lifer cover & the vacuum fitting under the carb (that the air cleaner hose is currently running to- it's not supposed to got there, that's un-ported vacuum, you're creating the worlds worst vacuum leak doing this)

The hose from the air cleaner is supposed to go to the cap on the valve cover- (to supply air to replace what the PVC valve is sucking out the side of the block) you've got the wrong part on there as there should be a nipple for the hose to connect to. If that's a filtered cap you have on there that's good enough, just remove the hose from the air cleaner & plug the nipple.

yep plug the hose barb on the oil bath
the valve cover cap is a filter like a mini oil bath, might want to clean or replace it.
run the line from manifold under the carb to the side cover with the pcv.

no vac wipers or vac fuel pump so the T is deleted
the pcv valve can be carefully unscrewed and cleaned with carb cleaner,
the pcv is a metering device and check valve so it is needed to prevent engine sludge.
it sounds like the carb would has its idle screw turned way up if it is happy with the hose to the oil bath.

[IMG]The cap I have is vented. See picture above. That being the case, I need to run the PCV and line from side valve cover to the fitting in the head under the carb. only. And just remove the tube from the oil bath filter and plug it with somthing. Right? thankyou.
