JK lift versus mileage

What kind of mileage hits are 2 and 4 inch lifts making? I am most interested in a lift without a tire size increase and realize that may limit the "sample" base a bit. I am going to assume the 3.6 and 3.8's will suffer the same relative decrease.

 

If all you're doing is a 2-4" lift and changing NOTHING else, I doubt you'd see any real difference in mileage, but that's just me.

I agree, surface area to the wind doesn't really change. Worst that can happen is you go from bad to worse.

 

I suspect the increased driveshaft angle may eat some HPs, especially on a 4" lift, although maybe not enough to notice.

 

I disagree. Lifting a vehicle increases the "dirty air" under the vehicle increasing drag. May not be much, 1-2 mpg if that, but it will change some as its basic airflow characteristics to all vehicles.
Unfortunately I can't help with this specific vehicle.

I didn't lose much on my JK with a 2.5" lift the thing that killed me was the tires I am running a 37 now and I am getting 15ish in the city with a 2012 3.6.

 

That was exactly my concern. Not the rotating mass of bigger wheels and tires which I can guess pretty well what the results will be. I think it is going to get the mild 2" Mopar (REx?) lift if the dealer will put it in writing that he will still honor the warranty. They said it verbally but I am sure that wouldn't hold much water if I actually needed some work done.

 

^^^^^This. Nick is right. You'll see a small degredation in MPG even with a leveling kit. That's why OE vechicles are raked down from the factory - to better cut the air like a knife and to minimize dirty air that's able to get under the front of the vehicle and cause drag on the undercarriage.

Sort of remember reading some of that but didn't have any plans of buying a new Wrangler at the time so didn't pay too much attention to it.
