So easter week-end was a good time for some trail.

But i ended up frying the th350 :censored:

My electric fan work with the engine temp. And i found out that these engine are not producing a lot of heat so the electric fan barely come on.
I have a oil cooler in front of my engine radiator. Is position is right in front of second electric fan. But with the fan not kicking in and playing in the snow the oil from the transmission wasnt cooling down.

So yesterday i pull the transmission for repair at the transmission shop.

I will also upgrade some thing for better cooling. Deep pan on the transmission (add 3 quart) with a provision for a temp sensor. I will also put a 16 pass cooler (have a 8 pass now) and i will had a 180-165f electric thermostat on the inlet of the radiator so it will turn the fan just behind it when demand will be there.

  6. manual transmission?

If I understand correctly what you have written, you have two electric fans that are controlled by the engine computer. With the cold temperatures the engine never warms enough to cause the second fan to run which also cools the transmission oil. A simple fix may be to 1) Rewire the fans so that the fan that also cools the transmission oil becomes the primary fan and first one to run when cooling is needed or 2) In the engine program, reverse the operation of the two fans. With this option, no rewiring is needed.

Sound like what i was thinking.

There will be one fan controled by the transmission oil temp (putting an in-line electric thermostat).

The second fan will be activated by the engine temp.

The oil cooler will be upgraded with a 16 pass (8 pass before)

And just to make sure a deep pan (add 3 quarts).

With the pan i will be able to install a temp gauge with the probe in the pan

Hopefuly this will be the only time i will mess with the transmission.

  10. rebuilding an automatic is NOT fun. the best part is no part, and manuals have far fewer parts...

Not related so much to the jeep. But now i will be able to travel to new trail area with the jeep. Getting this thing by the end of the day.

I will still ride my jeep on the road in my local town. With the pandemic and our state that restrick more and more our liberty, the jeep will be our only escape this summer.

She's becoming more and more a trailer queen. Ahah no joke, it's only for the long range trail :)

Happy to be able to put the jeep on the trailer in the garage, servicing bearing will be easier :p
