...and in today's episode of 'The Dutch Garage" we show you how to accessorize your rollcage for spring....

At some point it struck me that many of the things that we’re always finding homes for while Jeeping are in belt-holsters - like cell phones, digital cameras, Leatherman type tools, small binoculars, etc. I came up with the idea of “rollcage belts” - just 1” strap welded to the rollcage with ~ 1/4 gap behind it. I hope this will help keep this stuff both well-secured inside the Jeep but also organized and within reach.



For those belt-pounches that need to slip over, I made it so one end of the rollcage belt could come loose using a thumbscrew.


I put a section between the seats:


One on each side in the rear:


Also welded in the passenger side grab bar that the fabricator "forgot":


And found a home for the Hi-Lift:


Now....back to floor patching....

I was actually kicking around smooth black Durabak for the rollcage - since you're walking over parts of it so much it really seemed to take a beating.

But - as I'm wire-wheeling it I don't see any primer...the paint was done by the guy who fabbed the cage and I'm betting it got the quickest of quickie jobs just to get it out the door. I think I'm gonna wire-wheel it all and just try a good prep / primer / topcoat with TSC black and see how it holds up.

 

Got the gas fill...uuuhhhh..filled today.. Hadn't been looking forward to this since it's such an odd shape...but didn't come out too bad. Remember I had to make this shallower in order for the rollcage to clear it.





I'll have to wait untill the rollcage is back in place before I can mount the outlet for the water tank -- I want to make sure I have enough clearance for the fitting on the back side & room for the hoses to run.

What they did do, they did ok on - well, with the exception of not getting the driver's seat placed right. I had it marked out and everything. But the bends and welds are good.

What bugged me more was the stuff they said they would do and didn't - no grab bar, no latch for the passenger side seat, didn't return the stock seat frames, took 4x longer than they said, didn't settle up as promised for the damage to my seats, etc.

My only recourse was this - one of the benefits of being a web-head...

 

Put a patch in the drivers side rear wheelhousing - while the rear floor is all new metal the PO left in the original sheetmetal. There was a ~20 split where the floor and wheelhousing had rusted, and for some reason there was a 10" chunk of rebar and a piece of wood shoved in between the two metal layers.

Also started on the drivers side floor. This isn't the way I really wanted to go, but I didn't have the right size sheet metal on hand, and it'll all get hidden by the water tank anyway (yes, still intend to patch those gas tank holes as well, just ran outta steam today). Actually the way the rear floor was done I can't really make the tub more "butch-repaired" than it is anyway...

 

Brown Santa dropped off my water tank today.

I won't be quite sure where to mount it until the rollcage is back in place (it looks a bit high at the back edge) - but I got real lucky. Check out how it fits between the seat mount rails - so if all else fails I can mount it there and it should clear.

 

7 patches cut and welded in today...got the bullet hole welded up as well. I think I might be done patching holes in the floor..

I have a bunch of grinding to do - then I can evaluate whether I'm ready to think paint...

 

Looks good Mike! What's the deal on the water tank? Special purpose or just a water for gp, hand washing, radiator, whatever might be needed?
