I used one of these, but it made no difference in noise. It's a good shaft, sealed up well, but I just had higher expectations for quieting my transfer case.
Welcome to the whiney world of side drive cases.

Let's talk crossmember. Can I use the original or is some modification needed?

I would not expect it to make any difference in noise....just last longer.
I DID expect the AA roller bearing conversion to be less noisy,, which it was not.

You can use the original one, however, the transfer case mount will not line up if you bolt the transmission to the t86 bolt holes. You will have to do some customization.

What's the nut size on the back of the output shaft on the t14? Fsm just says nut. I'm not finding anything at my flaps. The tranny is now mounted to the tcase, everything spins as its supposed to, but I'm afraid to move it all around to bolt to the tranny until I have that nut and can tighten that nut.

To answer my own question, it's a 7/8-18 nut. I had 3 on hand, and yes, they are the same nut for the t90,t86, t14, t87 and many other transmissions. What I think happened with my new to me t14 transmission is the previous owner, in order to remove it from the tcase used a block of wood and a BFH to pound it away from the tcase causing it to distort. Not enough to see it, but enough so I couldn't get a nut on it.

I took one nut, cut it in half to use as a thread checker, and a few threads past the tip of the shaft it spun freely around the shaft. So I know i had the right nut.

The second nut, I cut an angled slot in it and used that as a "cutting tool"/cheap threading tool, and using a 1.25" socket, and some cutting fluid threaded it on there until it was past the hump, then completely took it off, filed any burrs, and repeated a few times. Next step was to weld the nut on the cut edge in hopes of it sucking back tight.
Did the socket on/off and file a few times.

finally after i was happy, i tried the last good nut and it fit like it was supposed to. Put some lock tight on there and tightened it, and called it a day.

The t14 bolted directly up to the original crossmember that had the t86 on it.
Used a new transmission isolator from walks, and a new d18 isolator. Only thing I had to change was the diameter of the little tab on the transfer case. It needed to be enlarged to allow the walks bolt to go through it.

It was also a small struggle to mate to the Buick, but when is jeeping ever easy?

Can anyone with a t14 post a pic of where their cross shaft bolts to on the tranny side?

not understanding what you want....cross-shaft? you mean were on the frame the cross-member bolts? or where/how the D18 torque mount is done?

Where the clutch linkage cross tube mounts to the transmission, when installed.
I can see where it's was on the frame, but don't see the knob on my tranny to get the pedal linkage hooked up to

I went from T86 to T98, which on the outside is the same or very similar to the T18 as I understand. Mine didn't install well with the crossmember. Had to rig some roughly 2" spacers to drop the crossmember down, and then had to reach forward and up to get it to line up with the transmission mount. Over the years this rig has started to sag and has caused some issues in the engine compartment. As the transmission mount to crossmember sags, it is causing the angle of my engine to increase which puts the fan dangerously close to the radiator. What I'll be doing soon is eliminating the fabbed bracket and moving the crossmember to line up with the transmission mount instead.

When I did my T18, ITLKEZ came down an helped me put a dip in the middle of the crossframe so it could be directly under the mount but not hang down too low. We did need to heat and beat the existing dents in the right side of the crossframe for more transfercase clearance:

New problem now that I'm pretty much done hunting and back to jeeping.
My throwout fork slipped off its divot and the lower tab holding it in place moved around the mushroomed tip of the pivot ball. Gonna have to see if I can rent a boresnake and try to bend that tab to its proper location to get the pivot ball to rest in the divot on the fork.
