Finally, some updates! I finished the TC and I'm ready to start the T90. I took some time off for the holidays and I plan to use as much as the boss (a.k.a. the wife ) allows on moving the jeep forward.

 

Made my own tool to hold the yokes for the torquing. I had a crappy one but this is an upgraded version. Works like a charm!

 

I plan to replace one of the bearing that goes on the T90 (6208) with a sealed one, as I have seen around here suggested. Do I keep both seals or do I remove the interior one to lubricate better the bearing?

 

Progress...that t case looks nice...don't know the answer to the bearing ?... but in my experience sealed bearings last a heck of a long time...I would guess you should leave it as is

I removed the inner seal in the rear of my t-18 so the transmission oil would lubricate it. Outer seal left in to hold oil in the transmission.
May be different for your application.

 

That was my original intention, but I wanted to be sure and ask around...

 

Does anyone sells the stick shift ball with the shift pattern engraved for the T90?

 

Update: working on the throttle linkage. It was worn out so...cut the pice out and made a new insert!

 

I did not want to send my flywheel to a machine shop to have it resurfaced (not that I am trying to save money!). I saw a video on the tube of a guy doing it on a late. I decided to give it a try, if else I could always send it to the shop. The flywheel has a lot of meat and a couple of thousands less won't make the difference (I think).

 

The next step with the flywheel is to flip the ring gear to get a fresh side facing the starter. Any tips/ideas? I saw a video of a guy and a torch and looked pretty straightforward to me. But again, I've been wrong before!

 

I’ve never flipped one, but I’ve removed old and installed new ring gears before. Pretty easy, warm it with rosebud and tap it on evenly.

 

I do not have a rosebud, I have a regular oxy acetylene torch, the one for brazing. That'll have to do. Can it be done with that type of torch?

 

Yup, just takes a little longer to heat up.

Here is my try: it took a lot more time to remove the ring than the videos I've seen in YouTube, but I didn't have a rosebud as I stated before. Lots of heat spreaded evenly and a hammer and a driver did the trick. The big mass of the flywheel was a very effective heat sink and the ring didn't get hot enough to drop loose. The reheating was easier, since it was the ring by itself. It dropped over the flywheel very loosely and within a few seconds it locked up. Now I have a fresh side of the ring gear to engage the starter. Success!

 

Done with the T90 and transfer case! I installed a reverse light switch using an idea I saw on the net. It looks like is a keeper. I tested it with the meter and works like a charm. Now to mount the flywheel and bell housing on the engine. Let see...

 

IIRC, the space between the top of the t-case and the underside of the floor is pretty close, depending on how many shims your running between the crossmember and frame. Just be aware of that moving forward; the electrical connections pointing up might be a shorting issue.

 

I will keep an eye on it, ITLKSE. If it becomes an issue, I can always make a little pocket and a cover on the floor. We'll see when I'm dropping the tub on the frame. Thanks for the observation.

The engine is back and the T90/D18 with it!
