I thought about mounting it like that, upside down but I thought it woud be more difficult to release it, but it makes sense. I will try find a taller loop and mount the catch the other way. Thanks a lot, fireball!

I realized I had the loop all the way down and I could move it up just by adjusting the nuts. That is what happens when you mount one side months before the mating part! Also flipped the catch. By the way, the spring on it is weak at best. Is there any source for catch springs or do I have to bubba-engineer it?

There is a canvas strap to secure it in the down position on original window frames . There should be two holes in the hood just forward of the catch for a footman loop for the strap to go through.

After a looong hiatus I resumed working on my ride. The last piece of the puzzle was the almost non existent tunnel. I hacked it to the best of my knowledge and I think it came out ok.

Then, I realized that I was not so bad at body work...as I was at lead body work! Man, do I suck!

All in all, I am happy enough that the tunnel it is almost done. IMG-20220327-WA0008.jpg

I just bought the windshield wiper motor from Walcks, the one they recommend for the CJ5. I tried it on the frame and something funky is going on...

1x4 wooden blocks is what I used. Maybe cut down a bit.
Mount with the center bolt and one on the tab.

I took the Jeep today for a spin around a few blocks ( remember: no tag or insurance yet!) and it runs technically fine. A noise here and there of "stuff" vibrating, but I expected that much. The good: it handles pretty well all things considered. The brakes are a tad more effective towards the front even after adjusting the rear, I might get new shoes. The clutch and gears run as expected. Also, the speedometer works!
The issues: still have no movement on the temperature gauge, the gas works fine.
At around 40 (or 4 on my dial) the engine screams like I'm going 100! Do I need to regear? OD? Should it be like that?
