Scott's '66 Continuous Modifications.

    The P.O. was a big fan of spray on bed liner. Thick coat here on dash.

    Got in a hurry and used sander/grinder. Ended up gouging the filler pretty bad. Pretty much got to start over on dashboard. I think I’m learning stuff.

    Drug the tub outside this morning and started sanding.

    Moving on to the hood.

    There are a couple dents that are bigger than I thought the first time over.

    Hood has 1 coat of primer so I put it up for now.

    Tailgate I sanded mostly by hand and sprayed primer. Didn’t do any repairs or filler on tailgate.

    Front right fender is next. Like most any 52yo fender it has issues. Biggest issue is that bottom bolt hole was completely rotted away.

    I think this bolt is really necessary so I cut and bent this little tab.

    Started welding.

    Moving ahead slowly. This fender has been in the garage all week as I’ve been distracted by house guests. I’m going to finish it today.

    I didn't really get much Jeep work done over the weekend as I did a 64 mile MTB race. Took a spill at about mile 55 and had to finish 10 miles with a nice gash in my knee...

    Trip to the ER, a few stitches and almost good as new.

    Taking a break from body work I decided to make some fuel tank hold down straps. I cut one with snips and the other with cutoff wheel on grinder. Neither are very straight but I'll make them work.

    That's as far as I got. I'll have to get the tub set back up on stands to mock up the tank and straps maybe tonight.

    Nice cut on the knee.


    Generally having a strip of metal bow like that after cutting is because the grain of the metal has stretched or shrunk due to either the pressure, or heat and cooling process.

    Shears sometimes make it stretch due to the pressure of the cut.
    Grinding heats the steel, then when it cools down it can shrink.

    One trick is to cut both edges using the same process.

    But these being thin sheet would straighten up fairly easy.(y)

    Been busy with life the past couple weeks so not much got done. Tomorrow some friends are coming to help move the tub and install floor supports. So I rolled in the frame and chopped this bumper off. PO had this 3x6 hunk of rear bumper- over 60lbs!! I think we can do it with 20lbs.
