I think the factory made BRAKE parts.............

I think we have seen one other like that here.

I had one of those and could find no info about it, here or anywhere else. I think I tossed it to the recycle pile.

I also had one. I tried it with a magnet and the magnet would barely attract. More like it was bronze instead of brass. I either gave it away or recycled it as I didn't have a use for it

Bronze pedals show up on Jeepsters occasionally, never been able to find any info on why they used them either. Experimentation maybe?

The alternative is cast iron, and that would be much cheaper to produce than bronze or brass.

All I can think off offhand, is that the cast iron part would be more brittle. A bronze/brass part is softer and less likely to break - though I'd think more likely to bend.

FWIW - Brass and bronze are used in place of ferrous metals when "non-sparking" (explosion proof) needs apply. How that might relate, I can't say.

    What year is this from?

I was thinking corrosion resistance, given it's proximity to brake fluid but, that is sort of going out on a limb. I can think of no other reason for it really.

It's from a 66 225v6 cj6. The exhaust runs close by (factory) if that has anything to do with heat transference?

I replaced the arm on my '53 M38A1 a couple of years ago and neither the take off or the replacement were not brass. I can only assume the arm was original to the Jeep based on paint and patina.

I wonder if there was a shortage of cast steel/iron during production and that's why some were bronze/brass. Just another thought to muddy the waters...

Whatever the case, polished up and installed, it sure would add some BLING to the interior.R)
