that would be your parking brake, the drum on the back of the TC. that cover to the left is where a PTO or OD would be and yes you can have both stacked, herm has an adapter.

The thing you have circled is the clevis and arm for the parking brake. There would normally be a cable from that to the crossmember and up into the cab to a park brake handle. On an early CJ that would normally be on the left side of the dash. The PTO port is where the flat plate with 5 bolts is bolted on. You don't currently have a PTO on that transfer case. The thing on the right with the big drum is the parking brake assembly. A companion flange bolts to the existing flange and the drive shaft for the rear axle attaches with a universal joint to that.
You can run a PTO and overdrive unit. It requires a special adapter to made the two. The PTO would go on the back of the overdrive using this adapter. Hermtheoverdriveguy is having the special adapter manufactured. Nickmil

    Strider380 Can I have a zip tie?

I've seen some pretty wide tires on pretty thin rims. I think you could definitly get a nice set of 31's on those rims. Besides, in the snow, you want thin tires with beefy treads. We call them "cutters".
I wouldn't touch the suspension unless you don't like the way it rides or something is broken. In that case, I would just replace the shocks.

I'm not sure if you've gone through the pain of developing a new driver. I've done it four times. I know your intentions to give your son a Jeep as his first ride are good. Please let me get this off my chest. Every time one of the kids were even a minute late you think the worst, even in a normal car. But, I had a hard time letting my kids drive away in my CJ,,, and never at night. Let face it, Jeeps aren't the safest thing on the road. Enjoy your build.

ya true but you can have them drive a jeep around the field to learn how to use a clutch and such but ya im sure a jeep in a wreck gets turned to a cube. That said when you cant go over 70 mpg at least I wont have to worry about him racing anyone :)

Oh got it at the other place now guy there says he thinks its not a 225 that its a 231 does this make much of a difference? Is the 225 better or worse or same? It has a dauntless emblem on the side but is that possible with either engine?

They are both dauntless engines I believe. The 231 is a tad bigger.

If you learn how to drive a CJ5, you can drive anything.

Only the 225 is a "Dauntless", as Kaiser named it. The 231 is pure Buick, and an even fire.

The 231 also came as an oddfire for 2-3 years roughly. The distributor is the dead giveaway as to an oddfire or an even fire. Patrick knows this he just forget to type it.:D

Try to find out what makes the guy think its a 231 because there is not a lot of difference.

Internally there are quite a few differences that can create a disaster if the parts were to be swapped back and forth and not done right.

I agree, but someone who doesn't know the small external differences might think a 225 is a 231 because the 231 is a lot more common.
I'm building a 77 231EF currently to replace my original 225 and have learned the differences the hard way.
