I have helped build a couple of frames like that with some buddies of mine. That is just about the best way to go for a trail rig since most every bracket on a stock frame has to be cut off anyway. Best lookin one I have see so far is the one for this Jeep that was riding with us over Labor Day Weekend. He had the frame powdercoated, and he put so much time into it that it looks like it is one piece all the way.

Looks like fun. That has got to be 200% stronger than factor C channel. 2 x 4 x?

    Sa-weeet work Kevo!!!

That's a project I always thought would be too much/too difficult for an average knucklehead like me to tackle. It's good to see someone else doing it. Gives me motivation.

    A couple Q's for you:

How do you or can you keep everything square before/after welding?

What are the specs on the welder you used for thatwork?

Yup, I have more or less decided to build a buggy out of the current jeep. I'm just tired of dealing with the limitations of a stock body. I'm keeping the grill, hood, cowl and windshield. The rest will be tube with aluminum sheet bolted to it. Going for the simpler, lighter, stronger mentality.

I'm keeping my current drivetrain, although I'd like to regear the axles and eventually I may change some of it out. The rear 4 link will be basicly the same. The fronts getting a 3 link with panhard and maybe some coilovers if I can find the funding(I'm allways taking donationsR) ). I'm stretching it from its current 94" wheelbase to 105" and hopefully I can fit a rear seat in. I am trying to make a functional "trail" buggy. Something I can camp out of for days at a time. I'd also like to be able to carry more than just my stuff in case I have a passenger sometime.

It all starts with a frame. I haven't torn into my jeep yet, so if this doesn't come out just right I'm not totally committed just yet. As for keeping it straight, well...., thats a good question. After tacking and welding down the seams both rails were very, very close to each other. Mostly just making sure things are clamped staight and watching how I weld them together. Currently one rail is almost done being plated so they don't match at all now. I'm mostly just worried about the frame having a funny warp to it when done. May have to use a little weight and heat to get it straight.

    Should have more pics tommorrow.

Did a lot of welding today, but I don't feel like I made a lot of progress.

I bet that one side ways more than my whole frame. There's the beef.
