Ok I have a D30 for Bamm Bamm that I will need to regear.
    Already have 2 D44s for it. One is a 4.27 the other a 5.38.
Both gear sets are available for the D30.
This will be mostly a trail jeep with very limited hiway use.
I'll be running an oddfire in it, so, what gear set are y'all running?

    Overdrive?

5.38s would be ok with 33s and a top speed of about 65. Otherwise 4.27.

To me with a v6 I would look at the transmission choice, 4.27 would be my choice with a granny geared 4 speed but if you stick with a 3 speed I would use the 5.38. Saying right now that it won't be used on the street may be a little premature, you'll get it running and then it will be driven at your whim street or trail.;)

Guess I should have put stock tranny (3 speed) no OD and 33s maybe 34s.
What little street pounding it will get will be limited to the trail heads from places like Crawfords. Maybe around here where the speed limit is 45 max.

If your certain you don't need to go over 55 or 60, I'd go with the 5.38's...

Yes sir I'm sure it will never see those speeds, unless it's on the trailer behind the Ram. R)

The speed limit where I live is only 45 mph. The interstate is (all three of them here) just not alll that fun in a Jeep to me.
Its being built for trail use more than a driver type Jeep.
Heck at the rate its being built we may not have gasoline left any way.

Guess I've seen where Billy lives. Here it's normal for the roads to be wiiiiddddeee two and four lanes with speed limits of 65 or greater and long open stretches. :)

We do have two four lane roads that go right through Hermitage but they keep the speed down. :( Heck some rds are still 30mph.

Guess I'm more wondering how the 5.38s will hold up, the only place I can find that has theme is Randy's, if I recall the Yukon gears are made in India or some such.

I voted C 'cause we all know no matter how much you get done you're never finished until you sell it.;)
But I'd go 5.38's it it were me.:v6:

If this jeep is to be used primarily off road I'd use the 5.38 gears.

For heavy off road use it is difficult to get it geared too low.

For the occasional on road use, an OD would work nicely.

I don't do any off roading in jeeps any more, but when I did, I always seemed to want another, lower gear that I didn't have when maneuvering up, down, over, under and through whatever.

5.38's Rule!!!!!!!! They're not easy to come by for a D30 though. I got mine from Randy's but waited 60 days for them. Yukons are well made gears.

5.38s, for all the reasons listed above.
