It did it with both points and HEI. No change in behavior at all. I don't think switching yet again will help much.

I think I can rule the gas tank thing out. Look above.

Ok I am going waay out on a limb here, but I have seen it happen once.

Disconnect the tach.......I had one short on me once.

Then send me a case of beer

Oooooooo, I have seen this before too when it was a bad connection with a tach on one. When the tach would quit working, the engine would run perfect, when it was working, it would fall on it's face. Another vote for disconnecting it just to check.

I replaced those and the knuter valve between the header collector and muffler while I had the headers off Tim.

From reading through most of this again, I have come to the conclusion at there is nothing wrong with your Jeep, it has to just be your imagination.:) :)

I always did have a vivid imagination.

Maybe it just wants new tires? R)

    R) Yep, if your Jeep is a spoiled brat, new tires might do the trick.

Sparky Chia is fighting me less since I got the new tires. So that might help.

No offense Sparky but how about taking up a collection to send jpflat2a (Jim) out there?

So you get up, hop in the Jeep (cold engine) start out, every things runs fine, even in 3rd gear and go about 2 miles (hot engine). Now we have backfiring problems - coughing. Does the carb have a choke pull-off? IIRC, its a 2G? Are the warm air passages from the intake open or closed?

Coil could be failing as it gets hot? Let's change the spark plugs anyway, might have been damaged by backfiring or defective from the factory.

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

The problem is the Jeep wants to come to Tellico. It knows if it runs bad long enough then fixes itself you might just bring it. R)

Didn't think about the tach causing problems. Kind of a stretch but what do have to lose at this point.

I can head over tonight and hand you a wrench or two if you want me to. IIRC, you ran the jeep with a gas can in the cab, bypassing the tank?

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

No, today was the first day it ran fine then acted up. Previously it'd act up immediately when I got to 55 mph.

    Choke is open, it's manual.

Warm air passages were carboned shut prior to hot tanking. Blocked off by the gasket I'm currently using. So that's not changed, they're blocked.

Coil(S) both 12V and HEI have exhibited the same symptom.

I have a recently rebuilt/working 2G on my Chevelle that I could send over if you want to try a different carb altogether. Came off a '70 GMC 307, so it probably is jetted a little richer. Car is just sitting for welding, so it wouldn't bother me any. Then I could just pick it up from you when you take Linus wheeling Labor Day;)

I appreciate the offer. I did already try another carb. Just ran worse but did the same thing. R)
