Nebr1957CJ5 I will do it tomorrow

So as a single bulb tail lamp, it turns on with the indicators and parking lamp, but not as a brake light?

Correct. Which to me should say switch... Right?

Man, I wish I'd have fixed the structural shortcomings of my Super Jeep body and left patina. I'd have enjoyed a lot more driving, and saved a LOT of time and money.

Can you jump from the power wire coming in to the switch to the other wire and get brake lights?

Good question. I'll check that this evening.

I do know the 'hot' wire is hot. I accidentally hit that earlier haha

Got it. Bullet connectors needed cleaning up.

    I going to steal that...

Using your cell phone to see if the brake lights work. I usually just call the wife. Boy I feel stupid... :p

And just how do you go about that? Telling your wife you replaced her with a cell phone?:madwife:

Wow great find. Yours looks the way mine should. Unfortunately mine has been under the knife several times over its lifetime.

So true. I believe a few here have replaced switches and ended up finding the connector needing attention.

Best also look at every old splice and connection ever made, those are likely to come back and bite you at some point

I'll likely go the route I did with my FJ45 when I found a melted ignition wire and just pull the harness entirely. For the FJ I ended up completely rebuilding the harness (with correct wire colors and connectors), and it works perfectly now. It only took the better part of two weekends once I had all the wire and connectors I needed. There's even fewer wires in the CJ so should be even quicker.

Thanks for the link on patina preservation, looks like I have all the stuff needed on hand too! Cool build and lovely FJ45, I'd love a SWB one if I could afford it.
Walcks4wd has complete (and factory correct) harnesses if you wanna save the time. I rebuilt my chassis wiring harness and I'd recommend wire barn and 4rcustomswire if you haven't heard of them.

That would definitely save time! It wasn't an option for the early FJ harness.

Those lower windshield hinge bolts should have countersunk tapers under there. The correct fasteners are countersunk phillips heads with locking ridges on the taper. As a Tux, they were chromed too!
