Paint them. Traditional primer, at least, is permeable to moisture and does not prevent rust.

Thank you for the advice, I will paint them as soon as possible!

RATTYFLATTY I think you need a little more throttle

Finally got some time to install my birthday present over Christmas. Valve covers should be worth 10Hp

Pulled the trans and transfer case out of the 3B yesterday. Trying to stop a few leaks. Changed the input bearing to a sealed unit from Novak. Just paying more attention to basics.
Gotta tinker with one of them.

Peaked in the garage to check the battery minder. Will check again in a week or so. That is all. Carry on.

Been chasing gremlins in the 225 since I put Claudia Jean back on the road. I made a decision to not go into the motor but just clean it up, fresh coat of paint and see what happens. Low compression in #4 and heating issues, turned out to be cracks in both heads and #4 intake beat to "H-E-double hockey sticks". The PO or POs had the heads off, new gaskets, shims under the valve springs, etc., so probably were chasing the same problems.

My "parts" motor had two good heads, that look to be un-touched, so I feel blessed this evening.

Is it a motor or engine?

I was always taught a motor is electric, as compared to an internal combustion engine.

Last few days I have been welding the New Left side Rear Panel and Lower Cowl section on. Yesterday I finished up the Lower cowl section (I am waiting on a new Wheel House to Side Panel gusset to arrive and that will be the last thing to weld in. I have most of the welds in the Rear Panel ground down and have a few more to do between the Lower Cowl and Firewall. I should finish them up yet today. I have a few detail things to do on the Left side then its on to the same thing on the Right side. Hopefully much less of a learning curve now that I have the left side behind me.

Took my CJ6 frame to the sandblaster today. Took off the factory frame strapping, cut off the rear cross member, so it will be a nice clean slate to start from. Plan on outboarding the front spring hangers, re-strapping the frame from front to rear, and then reinforcing the outboard hanger areas, and some intermittent boxing.

I have a project thread on the CJ-2A page here:

A little project update on Chug A Lug:

Look to about page 30 for the sheet metal stuff.

Installed cheapie Rugged Ridge fender flares. No luck finding any without indent, so I guess I will live with it. The tires were throwing a fair amount of pebbles around last year so I wanted to get some flares on it. I think they look good. On the rear I insulated the screws from the aluminum body with heat shrink tube and insulated washers (as well as priming and painting all the holes.) It was nice doing the front 'glass fenders...use the hardware given and don't care about galvanic action.

Also..my son Alekczander did all the washers, my son CJ did all the screw insulating and drilling and my Anastasia helped hold the flares in place while we marked them. It was a fun night in the shop. Can't wait till my little Zeke is old enough to help too.

image.jpeg image.jpeg At the in-laws and got a little done. Got the heater installed and the shutoff valve. Was pressed for time, so I didn't get the transfere case oil leak solved. Had stopped leaking after sitting quite awhile, so I figured maybe I overfilled it? As soon as I started the motor it started dripping quite a lot. Just sitting idling it made a puddle. Doesn't make sense and I had to leave it for another time. Got a bad feeling on this one.

Decided to put Wilbur's (the 55 wagon) wheels and tires on Willie just to see how they look, felt, etc. These are 16 inch truck rims with brand new Goodyear DuraTrac 215/R85's. I like the off white/cream color on Willie and the ride did feel softer and quieter. Not sure how much the extra 1 inch in height affects the speedo, but I did seem to feel more body roll in turns. It made me want to slow down even more as I head into the turn. The wife riding passenger even felt more lean and said to slow down as she grabbed the dash grab bar. I'm not sure how much of it is just imagination vs the radials vs the extra inch of height, but with her saying it too, I wonder. These eventually will go on Wilbur when he is road ready, but I'll experiment with them here for several months and see how I adjust.

Did a final fit-up of my hanging pedal assembly this weekend. It's part of a complete brake system upgrade from 10" drums. I'll start a build thread soon.

I bought a hanging pedal assembly from a '94 YJ, but after studying it I wasn't happy with all the modifications required to get location and ratios where I wanted them and decided to start from scratch. I already had all the rod, tubing and most of the plate on hand... or at least that's how I rationalize my obsession.

Can you tell me what heater valve that is? I could use one like that.
