They were better when I last had them, probably two decades ago but it was still good. Nostalgia!

Mine was same. No needles and made that way. Fine for low torque low velocity application like steering column. The replacement had needles but didnt fit the yoke. Decided to go with Borgeson rather than mess with the original parts.

After some family time including a bike ride through Lower Bidwell Park, a frozen yogurt and some random tinkering...

I sanded the tailgate after soaking out the pancake rust. Removed the pit rust too.

Then I put the wire cup on the angle grinder and went after the bottom of the tub. Was hoping to shoot bedliner on it. I know, but my project and i have providence of no rust.

I have in front of the y- hat channels to finish, then i will shoot it.

    Weekend recap:

Put the new tires/wheels on. Goodyear Wrangler ST 225/75R16. Ride is very much smoother. I need to clean up the hubs...flaking paint and rust.

Backup lights and logo on tailgate. I have correct brake lights; just got other things in front of the queue.

I hope to put the rear quarter reflectors on today.

73 cj5 Not ready for the junkyard yet

Pulled the passenger side axle out yesterday to assess the damage.
The bearing is non existent but I did find a few rollers floating around in the axle tube. The shim, outer oil seal, and dust shield bit the dust. Pulling the driver side axle this afternoon and the differential cover to clean everything up and inspect the ring and pinion, spider gears etc. I believe my carrier bearings are shot but i'll find out in a few hours. The idea of one piece axles came across my mind but I want to hold out for now.

I beefed up the thin sheet metal that the worn out thottle return springs were hooked onto. And replaced with a new spring.

Changed the axle oil in my green jeep and fixed the oil pressure gauge plastic hose by using a new kit with new plastic hose and crush collars On the blue jeep. Greased both jeeps and tinkered around on the green jeeps front end inspecting the brakes and added a missing cotter pin to a tie rod end.

I moved my Auxiliary Battery from a wooden box, that got crushed in the accident I had in March, to an ammo can. I haven't decided weather to mount the can to the floor or move in onto the wheel well, and mount the inverter to the can lid.

Drove to Bumping reservoir this afternoon after returning from town to rescue one of my neighbors. He decided to drive to the lake this morning and then out onto the flats. Reservoir is at 30% capacity so there is a lot of exposed lake bottom. He learned a lesson about driving where he shouldn't.

I applied a light coating of epoxy primer to some fenders and the backside of the dash panel.

Was able to find a pair of rear fender well seat cushions. Just need to spray them black with that special vinyl fabric spray.
