Exactly what he did. I have about 30 degrees. I'm going to try to limp through the rest of this season and replace the chain and gears this winter.
I had a mechanic look at it today quickly. He adjusted my points (they were far too close, apparently). He also checked the give to the belt and...
OK, with it running I just checked the distributor-to-plug wires. Some of them have a regular flash on the timing light. One of them is dead...
Its cooled down now. I have it running again and the spark through the coil-to-distributor wire is almost constant (checked with timing light)....
OK, I think I'm getting somewhere. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP! I have been checking the spark from the coil to the distributor. How fast...
OK, at the suggestion of some of the folks on here and some friends where I live I replaced the points condenser and coil resistor. Afterwards it...
What kind of test light? I have a timing light, but I'm thinking you mean a current-testing light of some sort. I'll get one tomorrow and try...
I checked it against the block and against the (-) battery terminal. It's about the same readings on the ballast.
I was checking ground on the frame where other electric parts are grounded
Just checked the spark. Here's what I did (I hope its right). I took the #4 wire off (just because its easiest to get to), pulled the plug,...
If it helps, the voltage from the + terminal of the battery to ground is 12.4V
Darn. I was hoping that would be it. It seemed easy enough to fix. Any more guesses anyone?
Did it. If its the little block about 2-3" long a little thicker than a pencil... With key in "on" position: 5.75V on left terminal 11.25V on...
Silly question. Can you dumb that down for me? What is the ballast? Where is it? How do I find it? Thanks!
I checked V-DC between the + coil terminal and ground. With the key on, it was 5.6V. With the key/engine cranking it was 4.5V. What does this mean?
