Body mount help. What is this supposed to look like?

So, is it part of the hat channel, or simply a raised "snubber" that mounts to the frame? Looks like part of the hat channel in the pic.

Was just at the shop looking at the '70 the guy is restoring, and his is missing the section. Aaarrghhh! Another example of the intermediates being the red headed stepchild of the bunch!

Thanks for all the help guys!!

The best explanation I've read on why my best friend now treats me like I have HIV. He owns a body shop with 16 employees and I have a 1970 cj5

Not all do....only early models. I heard it was for when the military used to drop them out of planes. Not confirmed though....

Yep. To say his is missing this piece, isn't to imply that Dusty didn't replace the part. It wasn't there to begin with he said, commenting that he hadn't seen one like mine. His is looking pretty sharp these days!

That tub was buckled pretty badly. It came out OK, but it still looks bent.

It doesn't actually mount anywhere, it rests on the frame. As far as being part of a hat channel well I don't know if that brace would actually be a hat channel. That brace is the rectangular tube piece that runs the length of the tub. I've circled it here.

Ah....that's starting to make more sense! So, is that piece available, or will I have to find a substitute?

Sorry if I missed something, but my 59 CJ5 has what looks like heavy mud flap stock or a mining type conveyor belt cut into rectangles. They are about as wide as the frame and maybe four or five inches long. Walck's has em quite cheap. The goal it seems is to provide "something" other than metal to metal for mounting.

I don't know, but it is 1/2"x 1" or 1 1/2" (I'll give measure later from home) rectangular tube so either way it would be easy to source. The spot welded piece is probably 16 ga sheet cut and bent. I don't see why an extra piece of tube could be welded there instead.

I believe those are just stock body mounts. From the factory jeep used square cut pieces of old tires. I don't think anything was at this particular point.:v6:

see the above photo & the first page of this thread.

It is a simple 'mount'-- just a pad of some sort that rest on the frame. It lacks any sort of bolt/fastener that holds the body to the frame.
