As I was driving back from Phoenix this morning I had a wild thought. Has anyone tried to set up a fuel injection on a L head? I was thinking something kind of hidden, maybe using the carb as a throttle body and using a computer from a 2.5 or something. Just a thought but kind of interesting.

I know Holley sells a 1 bbl. TB kit that I am sure you could make work.

You could also use the megasquirt with it. I think there were a few members back that were either attempting or or thinknig bout it. but it would feniately be a good thing. Heck i would even get a jeep with an fhead and do it if somebody else does it :)

been contemplating this myself with the old Fhead out of wimpy as a mockup...

    Might be awhile though.

But then again, if I keep having trouble with the carb it might be soon:D

Yeah, Verne Simons did it to his flattie using a 1bbl Holley Pro Jection. We had a lot of timing issues with that engine, but the injection worked really well. Cappa just got a chunk of aluminum and drilled and tapped it to make an adapter. He used a hole saw and a rotary tool to finish it off and make a nice blend to the manifold.

Just an FYI - anytime you're looking for a story and can't seem to find it, e-mail our web geek, Jason at jason.gonderman@sourceinterlink.com. Just please try to search for a while before you bug him. When you're sure it's not up on the site, let him know and hopefully he can look for it.

Throttle-body injection shouldn't be that hard to do. The holley one or one of the others. Didn't Rochester have a little two barrel one out also? And it should sit lower than the Carter YF cause it doesn't have the bowl area to contend with.R)

I've been searching for that article but not having any luck. I think it would be cool to have the MB fuel injected in time for our Jeep themed wedding!(not many brides delivered in a '45 MB) Has anyone found it so we don't have to bother Jp's staff?

I'd think you could turn the GM 2.5L throttle body on its side and it would still work. Carburetors have a float bowl which makes an up-side for them, but FI should work in any orientation.

Megasquirt would be your best bet for a custom fit job that would allow you to make it look relatively stock and run the best. The problem with the Holley systems are you are limited in the amount of tuning you can do. I would never go back to a carb on my 225...it just runs too good and much better fuel mileage. My 304 still has the carb on it and I wish it was injected.....if it was pre-smog it would be.

I haven't been able to find much on Holleys website either...I'll have to check out Megasquirt. Vermonts looking to adopt stricter emission regulations but not sure how it will effect the Jeeps year wise...We looked at remounting our aerial lift on a propane fueled truck and it was going to be over $2000. a year to register it!! A propane Jeep would be much cheaper and gas powered is cheaper yet.

I would also be very interested in seeing the Jp story or where to find it.

My 1990 jeep 4 banger had throttle body fuel injection and it worked well off road. Throttle body fuel injection was only around for a very limited time in the jeep before they went to a multi port system.

Now that Canadian mentioned his 90 I realized we have a Wrangler parts Jeep that has I believe a 90 4 banger in pieces.the injector is there, the computer and the box/coil for the firewall but I'll have to check on the wiring...
