SSDutch - a 1964 CJ6

    Got a couple more hours in the garage this afternoon.

    I mounted the aux. fuse block that will hold the relay trigger wire fuses, and got the trigger wires for the ignition and starter run to the engine compartment.

    Slowly...ever so slowly...getting there...

    Man...after 2 years of electronics in HS you'd think I'd know to wire the indicator lights on my switch panel in parallel with their asscociated switches, wouldn't ya?

    Gee Boyink...why did you get stranded on the trail? Oh...the indicator light for my ignition switch burned out....:rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Now mounted in the dash with really nice stainless allenhead machine bolts.

    Just got the wiring finalized on it so mounted it - the dash is looking really nice...very clean and still "Jeep-simple" even with all the stuff I've added.

    That should look really good.

    You could go one step further with the switches and get those rubber "boot" covers so the water/dirt/sand doesn't corrode the switch handles. They just screw on - sometimes in place of the lock nut that holds the switch in place.

    Tell me about the "Idle Up" circuit. Do you just cut out the alternator?

    I have the boots - but I made the mistake of getting them in red which turned out to be fluorescent red. They looked terrible. I also wondered how long they'd really last - being rubber that sets out in the sun.

    I'll run it like this, and if the switch handles start looking bad I'll buy some black ones.


    No - when I *finally* get to the point of getting the FI installed, the idle up switch will wire into the 4.3 computer and basically tell it that I just turned on the AC, which will kick the idle speed up for using the onboard air.

    Yee-haw! Working parking lights all around! When it gets dark I'm gonna turn off the lights and just sit there flipping the switch...R)

    Actually gonna grille up some chicken, then tackle all the instrument lights since they run off that relay as well.

    Funny...I'll have parking lights that stay on when the headlights are on....

    Headlights working now too...dunno why but it still seems so cool to be turning lights on and off with a toggle switch..

    3 position yes, but it's an "off - on - on" switch so the parking lights stay on with the headlights. I bought it and a "off - on - momentary on" for the starter/ignition switch from this place - although it looks like they were bought out or merged as the URL is right but the name on the website is different.

    Nice sand-sealed switches for off-road use...;)

    Did you use some kind of secure keyed switch for ignition power?

    Like the originals where you could reach behind the dash and jump the wires together with one hand? R)

    Nope - no key. But other ways to disable the ignition if the situation requires it.

    Keep in mind - I don't live in a high crime area, the Jeep will hardly ever sit unattended for any length of time, and if someone *really* wants it they'll get it regardless.

    Gauges now powered and grounded. Waiting for it to get dark to see it all lit up...;)

    Still confused why Autometer makes you ground the tach twice....

    Could one be a signal ground and one a power ground? If so, it would be best to run a twisted pair for your tach signal / gnd and attatch the ground to a ground point nearest where the tach signal is connected (distibutor / coil). This is just a guess based on signal integrity / noise suppression techniques.
