Lets see some pics of your Panhead bar

    I am debating on running a panhead bar in th efront of the jeep to get it a little more stable on the road. it really isnt too bad now, but after reading a bunch about the subject i am thinknig bout making one. I am curious to see pics of them installed on a CJ5, and generally to give me ideas and motivation to make one up.

    Dan, I doubt you're going to run into very many people running a panhard on an early CJ unless they've converted to leaf springs. Your best bet is probably going to be checking out a YJ design and copying it as best as the differential location allows (since the YJ's is on the driver's side). I know we've gone over it before, but just remember to keep the panhard the exact same length and run it at the exact same angle as the drag link to prevent bumpsteer.

    Thanks for the info, from what i have been reading that is what i have been hearing also. I will still get a drop pitman arm first and see how much that does. My issue i have with my setup with YJ springs si the monuts i got, they are about 1/4 inch wider than the springs on each side, i have to crank them down to get it to close, and it is in my opinion that if they are totally cranked down then you will bind up the springs from moving by having it too tight. I may be thinknig about it wrong, not like i have that much space but i have enough that i could see the springs maybe shifting side to side a little and that possibly add some issues to a wandering jeep.

    And with my springs being so new, i guess i have to make the bar adjustable so i can compensate for when the springs sag over time. Are the stock bars adjsutable or solid?

    Just reread my post. I meant to say "converting to coil springs" but I'm sure you all knew what I meant.

    Stock YJ, TJ, and XJ panhards are fixed length. There are aftermarket adjustable ones out there. If you're looking to do an adjustable length, just weld in a threaded insert or tap the appropriate i.d. tubing on one end for a rod end when you build it. Then you'll have about an inch of adjustment. That should be more than you need. You don't need to adjust the panhard length for the springs settling because the drag link is going to come down the same amount. As long as you build it the same length and angle as the drag link to begin with you shouldn't have to touch it ever again. The adjustable track bars are really for re-centering the axle after a lift since the resulting greater distance between the frame and axle pulls the axle to the passenger side.

    I'd grab some tubing and the chop saw to make up some spacers for your springs before messing with a track bar. Having the spring hangers that much larger than the springs can easily lead to wander issues. The spacers should help a lot.

    Man, I remember those days!!! Wish I had another panhead....sure hit lots o' bars with my old '56. Bought it for $700.
