Left it on the side of the road while I walked home for a gas can…
Maybe that will move fuel delivery and wiring up on the list, nah.
It’s getting sold or it’s going westbound on a Matson freighter if all the stars align!

    I can't think of a better island vehicle than a CJ5.

That’s the plan but there’s still a bunch of “if’s and what about’s” then there’s the big “if”, will my job open up over there and if it does will I get it?
Then all of the hard decisions…sell here buy there, rent here and there, Daughters tuition (she just applied to Chaminade U in Honolulu). Ship the vehicles, which ones? Which animals go? And on and on and on…

And yes! I had a ‘78 CJ5 when I lived there back in the 80’s. Funny, I can’t remember ever locking the hubs, don’t remember if I had drive flanges or just left them locked. I remember locking/unlocking in Dad’s truck but not my CJ. Hmmm? (Btw, I bought a pair of flanges from @jpflat2a with the same memory or lack there of. )

Is that a classic enterprises repair panel?

It is. Worth the cost to have the wheel opening arch preformed.

Thought it might be. Looks like good quality. I been looking at their floor panels. Did you have any issue with the shipping? In other words did they do a good job in packing it for shipping? I was concerned the larger panels might arrive damaged.

I’d say that I got lucky with these. The two parts were wrapped together and put into cardboard. I’m not positive but I don’t think there was even bubble wrap. I remember being surprised when I opened it that the parts were not damaged.

I did also use their floor pans and riser when I first built the Jeep. I don’t remember there being any problems with those either.

Forgot to mention: Harbor Freight $16 air hammer/chisel is a huge time saver for taking panels apart. I cut sections off close to the inner supports/surfaces then used the chisel to separate them. I only drilled a couple spot welds the rest I pulled apart with the chisel. Then sanded flush with a flapper disc.

I am sheet metal repair challenged,, mechanical aspects/repair of a jeep drivetrain are second nature to me but sheet metal work is completely foreign. I would really like it if you have time to document the panel repair/weld in process. I have a lot to learn about it. Thanks Jim.

IMG_3033.jpeg Finally got around to correctly wiring my new Delco alternator. Now I don’t have to charge the battery every other week!

Picked up this fender from Bostonbob, it's as bout as nice a 50 year old piece of sheetmetal as you could hope to find. We're sanding it down and my son's going to shoot some epoxy primer on it. This isn't for my Jeep, it's my dad's Christmas present!

I’m the wrong one to teach anyone about body work. In fact I just took the wire wheel to completely remove the filler job that I just did today. I think I do have a couple more pictures that I can share.

I tried to re-install the fuel tank this morning. Its bolted to the rear crossmember so it needed to get that on first. And the bumper uses the same blots/holes as the crossmember. So the tank is still sitting there. I did get 2 bolts started on the bumper.

The valve spring compressor arrived in the mail today, so…

I got busy assembling the 5.3 for the project Jeep.

It had the DOD (Displacement on Demand) cam & lifter setup, so those bits got replaced -BTR “Truck Norris” cam - and new springs. A new valley cover went on to ditch the solenoids & oil passages.

Those heads are fun: torque the bolts to 22 ft. lbs, then turn them 90 degrees in sequence, then another 70 degrees. Whew! I can’t wait to torque the harmonic balancer bolt…
