I still don’t have my JEEP back. I got some parts in.
RuffStuff diff cover. This thing is literally bullet proof and they packed it like it was made of glass.

I found this Hammered Black spray paint, so I dont need to spray heavy runny coat of paint, (Kyle).

What all do you have to do to your jeep when you get it back?
Could you pick it up, wheel it in primer and give it back to them after?

I need to install new gas tank, new diff cover, new rear springs, new rear shackles, new rear shocks, (I have all this). I have the metal for skid plate but I need the JEEP. Install rear bumper and spare tire carrier. Need to check rear output on transfer case, it was leaking after accident. Bleed brakes check fluids. 2 days worth of work normally. I’m still limping around.
I asked about getting it back before they paint but he won’t release it because insurance won’t pay him without confirming all work is done. I kinda see his point, he has employees to pay and overhead. He did promise to have it back by next Monday, I will be out of town so my Dad gonna pick it up for me.
I’m watching the calendar, times a ticking…and we are leaving for Lake Shasta for the 4th. Sat-wed. Good thing I’m still off work.

Ok, back home and working on the JEEP. Dad picked it up for me on Monday while I was on Lake Shasta, I got home yesterday and was too tired to do anything. It turned out pretty nice. They straightened the body out and got it all lined up so the body mounts lined up and made sure everything was square.
I got the rear diff cover installed and diff full of gear oil.

don’t look to close at the bolts, went to local hardware store and picked up stainless hex heads, and changed after I took pic.

I painted the rear bumper last week. Installed it today.

I made a new skid plate out of 1/8” steel. Scored and bent it then welded up the score marks. When I fitted it up, it was hitting diff cover on full stuff, so I modified it by cutting a notch in it. Also notched it for the exhaust to pass thru.

I still need to install gas tank and install the skid plate. Then I need to install new rear leaf springs and shocks. Norcal69 just reminded me that I should check spring pins and replace if needed while it’s apart. Also need to bleed brakes. Norcal69 also reminded me that I need to get JEEP to the muffler shop to fix rear section of exhaust. Hopefully I can finish this up tomorrow. Oh and when my Dad picked up JEEP from body shop they said it ran out of gas so it wouldn’t start. I looked today and it has half a tank so I need to look into that.
For those of you that need motivation to fix your junk just give your phone number to Norcal69 and tell him you are gonna wheel with him…lol… he’s keeping me motivated to finish for Rubicon trip next week.

Got the gas tank and skid plate installed with the new shackles. Also got the brakes bled. Went to install the new shocks and they were to short, fully extended they didn’t reach with weight on suspension. I need to go through my shed and see if I can find my old shocks for the trip. Took the tail section of exhaust over to muffler shop and he made me a new one, fit perfectly. Also changed rear t/c seal as it was leaking.
I figured out what was wrong with the JEEP not starting. I checked and it had half tank of gas and I was getting gas into fuel filter right before carburetor, I also was getting spark. Called and talked to owner of paint shop and asked a few questions and found that it had backfired through the carb several times while they were cranking it over so they assumed it was out of gas. I pulled the air cleaner and found the choke stuck closed. Pulled the carb off and fixed the issue with the choke, put it back on and got it to run, poorly. Went to check timing , and found hold down was loose and timing was way off. Reset timing and got it to run pretty smooth. Because it had backfired through the carb I decided to rebuild the carb and replace the power valve. I had a complete rebuild kit in the parts bin in the JEEP. Back to running smooth.
I still need to sort out the shocks and install the rear tire carrier and pack then I’ll be ready for the Rubicon.
I didn’t take a lot of pics today but did get a few….

You’re almost there! Maybe someone can bring shocks for you…lots of us have stuff laying around. Man, I just gave away a set of old but decent shocks for 2.5-3” springs a little bit ago.
