Last Saturday I helped the Boy Scouts collect Christmas trees for their annual fund raiser. I used my truck and trailer and went I got home, I tried to back the trailer into its usual parking spot on the grassy hill. The grass was so wet and saturated that I couldn't get any traction, even in 4wd. I gave up and left the truck parked in the mud all week.

This morning I used my '70 jeep and its Smittybuilt winch to pull the truck off the muddy hill. I wish I had this winch, but it costs as much as my jeep.

I strapped the jeep to a large fir tree.

I started the jeep's engine and pulled the choke out enough for a high idle to put the alternator in the charging range. My winch has one cool feature: the remote control can be operated wirelessly. While I was in the truck steering, I remotely controlled the winch and reeled the truck toward the jeep.

The winch had no problem pulling the truck out of the mud and up the hill to solid ground. At this point, I was able to disconnect all the straps and drive the truck back out to the street.

Attaching to the tree was OK since truck just needed a little help on greasy lawn. Had your truck been axle deep I predict your Jeep frame may have had fewer bends.

Absolutely true. Or a few extra bends, like in the rear cross member. Don't ask....

Same with the '02 we had. Pulled our RV like a beast (8.1L/Alison), but one trip on a two-track trail in MI was enough. Barely made it out - had onboard air so was able to air down to practically nothing and get out.
