I just removed my poor quality omix replacement electric wipers from my safari windshield and I put back on the vacuum on the driver side and judging by the holes on the passenger side my windshield is intended to have the manual wiper on passenger side. It seems the cj2 manual wipers are fairly easy to find and look the same, but does anyone know if it is the same as the cj5 hand crank wipers, and if not whats the difference? My part book doesn't seem to show a complete manual wiper assembly for the Ventilating windshields. Instead it lists it as Arm and Blade #671175, and Handle and Knob #663647 for my cj5. Can anyone compare these numbers to their cj2 part book for me to check if they are the same numbers please?

I seem to recall someone online somewhere saying when they bought a replacement hand crank wiper for a normal windshield it was too short for the normal windshield and they thought it was intended for a ventilating but wasn't sure.

According to this page http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/windshield-wiper-manual_topic12392.html it shows the handle and knob as the same part number but they say a different number for the arm and blade. These cj2 ones look like they are the same but having different part numbers give me doubt. my glass height on my safari windshield is 11.5 inches and measuring from the center of that on the glass to the hole for the pivot bolt on the wiper arm gives me a arm length of 6.5 inches which is the same distance as on the arm pictured on previously stated website http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/windshield-wiper-manual_topic12392.html so unless the bolt that extends through the windshield is longer or shorter between the cj2, and cj5 safari windshield. these facts seem to point to cj2 manual wiper assembly being the same and will work for my cj5 safari windshield?

Has anyone else had this problem im faced with or does anyone know definitively if I can use this cj2 manual wiper http://walcks4wd.com/hand-wiper-kit-cj2a.html for my cj5 safari windshield? any information would be helpful.

When I took mine apart, it had two vacuum units on it. The holes on mine are identical and look like they came that way from the factory. I don't think I've ever seen one with a manual wiper.

Maybe the earlier one's had a hand crank?

My driver side had holes that a vacuum wiper bolted right up, holes were perfect for it. and I didn't realize passenger side was different until I tried to bolt up my other vacuum wiper to it. then I noticed it had no holes for the vacuum wiper. instead It has a center hole for the pivot bolt on the manual wiper to go through, and on each side of that about 1/2 inch away are small bolt holes for like a #10 machine screw. And I recently bought a manual wiper NOS bearing I think its called, that has the bolt holes and nylon bushing for the manual wiper and its holes lined up perfectly with those on passenger side of my ventilating windshield. And my 59 reproduction parts book shows part numbers for a ventilating windshield with dual vacuum wipers and it shows part numbers for a ventilating windshield that has one vacuum and one manual crank wiper. Tomorrow if I remember I can hold up a tape measure to the holes and maybe that NOS manual wiper bearing I bought from the wiperman, and upload some pictures.

Well, I did get around to taking a couple of pictures of my windshield wiper holes in my ventilating windshield. From what I am seeing this must have been designed with a manual crank passenger side wiper. [IMG] [IMG]

Figured I would update this for all those future search people, google, or forum or otherwise.

In my search for a manual hand crank wiper for my CJ5 ventilating windshield I could never find one for my unusual windshield. I found that CJ3B, CJ5, and CJ6 manual hand wipers will all interchange as long as its off a ventilating windshield.

I was originally wondering if a CJ2A hand wiper will work with a Ventilating windshield for CJ5 since I know that a stationary manual wiper for CJ5 was too long for a ventilating windshield. and I knew the CJ2A manual wiper was too short for a normal stationary windshield, and I never found out whether or not a short CJ2A hand wiper would work on my ventilating CJ5 windshield or not.

Long story short I bought a CJ2A reproduction manual wiper to find out once and for all if it would fit my CJ5 ventilating windshield and the answer is....Yes and no. Arm and blade wise perfect length for my windshield. handle also perfect. but apparently the shaft that goes through the windshield is shorter on CJ2A hand wipers than the CJ5 hand wipers because the cj3b, 5 and 6 all take a sort of bearing that bolts to 2 small holes on either side of the center shaft hole whereas the cj2a does not take a bearing.

So I bolted the cj2a hand wiper up without the bearing and to take up a little extra length on the shaft I installed 2 nylon washers. now its perfectly installed and stays up without wandering down to the center from gravity. so aside from being unable to use the bearing its a perfect fit, but if I wanted to use the bearing I would simply have to cut off the center threaded shaft that goes through the windshield and weld on a longer rod then thread it. but for now I will leave mine without bearing.

Ill try to get some pics tomorrow when its sunny.

Did you get the whole wiper assembly from WJP? I have a venting windshield stashed away for my build, and it still has the manual wiper on it, but I'm sure it'll need some parts, at least a new blade for certain.

Oh, and FWIW - my w/s doesn't have split glass or a divider in the center, and doesn't look like it ever did. I've never seen one like this, has anyone else?

    rondog,

I've seen picts of a few of the non-split windshields. Mine is split. I've wondered if the split or non-split were military vs. civilian. Or export vs. domestic use. I think mine came from a Canadian military originally.

I wish we could build a database on the vented windshields.......

Wipers much like this are sold for Model T Fords, etc. by Mac's Auto Parts and others, as another source.
