I'm still new to the jeep world. Well the cj world. Can you get a hard top for the 73's?

    Yep. Old and new.

Old start hitting up Craigslist and make sure you get all the hardware for the doors. A lot of people just take the hardtop and doors off a old jeep to sell them but forget to take the door hardware off. I Suggest reading up on the older tops before you get one so You know what all to get. 55-75 tops will work.

And you can get new ones as well.
    Open up the wallet though..

The old hard tops can be had sometimes under $1000 but you really have to get all the hardware or your going to have a big headache.
Soft tops do great in the winter. My factory cj5 heater will run you out...

I agree with others about getting hardware for steel tops . if the top doesn't have all the pieces , they are almost impossible to find

The most popular and modern steel top is the Meyer Cab http://cj3b.info/Hardtops/Meyer.html - this is what Jeep would have sold you with the Jeep in 1973. There are other brands of cabs shown on the CJ-3B page. Note none of these are currently being made new.

If you are a moderately skilled metal worker, you should be able to make the missing pieces for the hinges. The filler strips between the doors and windshield are also often missing, and could be made. So if you find a cab and small parts are missing, that could be a bargaining point.

There was an Acme fiberglass cab for the early/intermediate CJ-5s, but they are pretty scarce on the used market.

NB you are in the wrong forum for a '73. You want the Intermediate forum. Cabs and tops for an intermediate and an early Jeep are the same, however.

You can also change to a '76 or newer windshield and the newer-style cabs and tops will fit.

So your Gas tank inquiry has me concerned So I blew up your profile pic.

With the concern of the wrong year gas tank and your Jeep having a 1976 and newer windshield frame on it I think there's some shenanigans going on.

    Into a Pre 1976 cj5..........or someone re-titled a 76 and newer cj5 as a 1973.

Lets see some good up close pics of the frame and the jeep in general. We can help determine what parts you should be getting. The Above tops are not going to work with your current windshield.
