So either I or the shop lost the oil jet from the front of the engine. I don't remember seeing it when I took the engine down, but I'm not blaming anyone. These seem a little hard to find, anyone know where to get one? KW and Walcks are no go. Theres also some internet opinions that its best just plugged off because it robs oil pressure from the front cylinder. Thoughts? I know I need the .40 orifice.

DO NOT RUN IT WITOUT ONE.

On my first Fhead, it was missing. it was the reason it had 2 spun main bearings when I bought it.

    Oil Distribution

    They may have one.

So not only the machine shop jacked up your valve guides, but lost the oil jet too!!

Also it is not machine threads but NPT threads in the front of the block in that one hole, so watch out when you chase bolt holes in the block

I'm thinking that a *machine shop* (ahem...) could easily make one.

They put valve guides in backwards. Ya think I should trust them to make something important?

I'm starting to see why people swap in small block chevys. I think it might be easier. At this point I think it might go faster.

I wonder how many engines have been scrapped with those jets still attached.

It really is one of reasons people go to mainstream everywhere engines. People in machine shops don't get to see the old or weird stuff very often, but still try and make a buck.. but are incompetent because they have no experience with anything but the everyday stuff. The last time I tried to use a machine shop they charged me 300 bucks just to hot tank my V6 after an estimate of 125 bucks. Held my engine for ransom. I paid them, took my parts back and just put it together myself. Today, I would have let them keep it AND done what i could to ruin their business.

The GREAT machine shop before them didn't charge me one cent when they found BOTH of the Lhead blocks with cracks between the valve and cylinder in the usual spot. Unfortunately the good guys are out of business now...

Its hard to find good people to do quality work. When you do, make sure they know it and everyone who will listen.

This is awesome. I had my dad return the block since I had to work Monday, the "machinist" told him that's how he does all his in block valve guides. Dad said he looked about 25. He then said "If you want it done like that picture (meaning the service manual illustration that was provided to them-twice) then Ill do it that way. WTF.

The machinist should have asked to borrow your manual.

I'll have to look it up. I tend to remove everything I can from this stuff before I junk it.

edit: Oh. Okay. That little bugger. Might have one of those in a box of f head parts. I think I remember having trouble removing the last one or something but, I can look in the boxes.

Now that I have one in hand, I don't think this motor had one at all. Its big enough that I wouldn't have left it on the block when I sent it out, I don't remember seeing it when I tore it down. I did have some chunked out pistons, though it ran, poorly.

Makes me wish I had kept the blown F 134 I gave away for parts. It was toast, but a lot of it was good for parts. Hindsight is 20-20.
