I've never had a CJ5 before and just recently gotten mine (1967 V6 with stock linkage) in drivable condition after a year of resurrection projects. The throttle pedal seems too high because my leg is drawn back in an uncomfortable position wherein the back of my leg contacts the fuel tank. The pedal is less than an inch below the height of the brake pedal. Is this correct? I checked the linkage and it barely fully opens the carburetor when it's to the floor. It just feels like it should be at half the distance of the brake pedal.

    Thanks.

That don't sound right. Not stock? Need picture of floor-board showing throttle and thru wall shaft and also the engine compartment firewall of throttle bracket.

The adjustment on the linkage has two nuts to loosen (then tighten) so that you can pull the pedal in by the linkage a significant amount without affecting the throttle. After achieving your pedal height, make any throttle adjustment at the carburetor.

I'll post some pics tonight but everything is stock. The sweep of both the rod under the hood and the pedal inside the cab go to their limits. Even if I bent the arm inside the cab it would then stop the carb from opening wide open operation. To fix it the only thing I can think is to lower the attachment point to the carb or lower the attaching point to the arm on firewall to shorten the sweep.

The push clip which connect to the carb should be a threaded rod with a lock nut. Unscrew the rod so there is at least 1" of threads showing and adjust to a comfortable position for you. I had the same problem when I bought my 65 as the previous owner had a 4 barrel carb, so the linkage was screwed in all the way. I replaed the intake and put a 2g carb and did not know the linkage rod was threaded as the lock nut was covering the threads. I drove it that way for a long time and sometimes my foot would hit the gas when braking, very dangerous and uncomfortable to drive. I use to keep my heel on the tranny tunnel. What a huge improvement in driveability getting this corrected.

Really looking forward to this solution. Everything Chipdom described is exactly my issue as well. I sometimes try and keep my heel on the tranny tunnel but it's tough to have smooth throttle that way, kids and I look like rappers with our heads going back and forth in unison while I try and operate the throttle. I've hit the gas while braking on more than one occasion. The only good thing is it's easy to heel toe brake and gas when your idle decides to drop 300 rpm from what it was 2 minutes ago :)

Any chance the rod portion going down to the gas pedal has been shortened? The pedal definitely looks too high.

Fo-get-about-it, one size does not fit all in a Jeep....................The brackets in there look stock..............Move the pedal , change the style , or modify what you have to fit "You"

Jeep changed the pedals at some point. The earlier ones with v6 are like you pictured. Ive got the same issue. The floor mounted one was the newer style.

My 67 (titled otherwise) looked just like that. The most non-ergonomic configuration one could possibly think of and impossible to control in the rocks. If you are not doing a correct bolt type restoration, convert it to a bottom mounted pedal as shown for the 71.

Ditto. And see how your foot feels after putting up with it through 2600 miles in 3 days. Worst. Design. Ever.

    This one?

    https://www.amazon.com/URO-Parts-901-423-010/dp/B0066QQ4OI/

My Dad had a chrome pedal that was shaped like a foot in his 68. I'm not a fan of that look but I would run it over this current crippling setup.

Here's my current configuration, it's awful.

Now that we're comparing accelerator pedals, I'll add to the mix my stock '66 cj5 unadulterated pedal.... hinged to the floor and adjusted for my height via rod inside engine compartment. IMG_20160929_203149.jpg
