Finished some caster shims this morning. I always cut the relief and drill them so they can be bolted to the spring pack with the leaf spring bolt. Most of time they are stamped on the ends with the angle they are (sometimes I forget). There are 3 sets, 4º, 5º and 6º pictured.

Now on to my next project, modifying a bellcrank for tapered roller bearings.

There was a "metal art" class offered at the university I attended. I'd certainly call those shims 'art' well before any of the :poo: that spilled out of that studio.

Well I finally finished the bellcrank project Tuesday. I took pictures this morning before boxing it all up.
This belongs to member Nate (garage gnome), The shaft is made from 4142 (pre-hardened 4140), the tapered bearings are a nice slip fit. I made the washers to clamp it all together and preload the bearings from 660 bearing brass. The nut I had to modify as the darn thing was not square to the threads inside, also had to pinch it to make it lock on as the nut was not tight enough to even hold on the threads. I think it came out pretty good, hope it works well for him!!

I think you could put Omix outta business, and nobody ( at least on this board) would shed a tear. That's first rate.
