From my understanding the T-18 has two main shaft designs. Some shafts have a hub as part of the shaft and the other has a snap ring and thrust washer. I recently removed my CJ T-18 main shaft to install an AA shaft and adapter to mate to a D-300.

I’m thinking I can use the CJ T-18 main shaft, drive gear, spacer, D-20 adapter, and D20 left over from this swap on a future Ford T-18? I may have to drill a couple holes for mounting the adapter but I’m not sure I would need anything else, let me know if I’m missing something. Thanks in advance for your help.

Below is the new shaft with gears mounted beside the old shaft and omitted thrust washer and snap ring.

Yes you can. The only difference between the shafts is the one on the bottom has the thrust for 2nd and 3rd gear built into it and the one on top uses a snap ring and thrust washer that is removeable as you noted. The other obvious difference is the one on top is for a Jeep/Scout model 20/18 or the hard to find Scout "Texas Pattern" 300 transfer case and the one on the bottom is for a Jeep Dana 300 or 231,241, 242, 208, etc. etc.

you have to redrill 6 holes in the back of the Ford case and plug the bottom left stock hole. Do a search as I've covered this tons of times.

    Edit:
Don't forget to install the spacer between the rear output bearing and rear output bearing snap ring or the main shaft can move back and forth during operation. The T-18 to Dana 20 output shaft typically didn't use this spacer but Ford T-18's did and typically so do the T-18 to 300 conversion shafts. This "should" come with the small parts kit in your rebuild kit. It's a thin washer mixed in with all the snap rings and needle bearings.

To clarify, the Jeep T18/D300 shaft from AA does not require the washer between the rear output bearing and snap ring. Also, the small parts kit I purchased (sp-18-50) did not come with the spacer. I'm sure its in the larger parts kit that has the front and rear bearings included.

If your small parts kit didn't come with the spacer let me know. I think I've got some extras laying around.
