I am having a difficult time shifting my tranny from 1st to 2nd gear. Also 2nd to 3rd is sticky. No problems Reverse to 1st. IS this a quirk of the T-14?

66cj5: I never had any problems, when I had the T-14 (Over 250,000 miles). Is it grinding? or just plain hard to shift? Glenn

Sounds like 2/3 synchro assembly to me.

thought it might be the syncro on that side, since the rev/1 still works.

Even with a broken blocking ring, it should still shift (ask me how I know) although it'll clash. The T14 should shift nice and smooth from 1-2 and 2-3; no quirks in shifting that I know of, unless it's broken. Try putting the transfer case into neutral and shifting through the forward gears at idle without the clutch. If it works ok then, it's a clutch problem.

If you think it's the transmission, I'd say take the cover off and look at it - look for junk in the bottom of the case too. It's not hard to pull the transmission - I did one in my driveway in Santa Monica using just my muscles. Of course, I was 25 years younger, but it can be done.
