I'm looking for pics of a stock 72 dash. If no pics then maybe a layout of what was on the dash originally. I'm trying to figure out the electrical nightmare that lies behind my dash, but I don't know what was supposed to be there when the jeep was new. .Any help would be great for a newb to jeeps and the forum.

Some details, according to my memory - Heater panel is black from the factory on a '72. So is the perimeter of the cluster and gauges. Not sure that's the right location for the gauges - AFAIK, if so equipped, they would have been on either side of the cluster. Possible the amp and OP gauges were only available with the renegade package in '72 - certainly they were on the option list in '73. I'd also question the location of the brake release in the dash. I thought that the original location for the cable release was down by the pedal... maybe not. If not, that placement is unique to '72. Attaching bolts would not have been painted. Any plugs in the dash would have been painted. Not a criticism - a lot happens in that many years, but these details might be helpful to someone wanting the original dash look.

That is the correct location for the parking brake release. My 72 is a universal so it doesn't have any gauges except for the fuel gauge and temp gauge which are located in the cluster.

Thanks guys. That's exactly what mine looks like. Except for the nice paint, and fresh air knob?(by the ignition switch?)

Washer fluid pump by the ignition. Mine is the same. You say my bolts should not be painted eh... I think I'll keep them natural then.

I also have a MOTOR MINDER vacuum gauge that I am pretty sure is stock just up an to the left of the speedo. That is also the correct E-brake same one here. OP and AMP is on the left.
