Hey guys, I'm going to be finishing up my Herm's power steering install today but I've got a snag.

The brake lines for the front had to be cut due to a frozen connector and that means bleeding the brakes. That means some how getting fluid into the stock MC on my 68 cj5. That means...that since I'm going to upgrade to 11 inch drums that I might as well wait to put the fenders back on until I have the new drums and hanging pedals that I'm wanting to install. So here are the questions:

    1. Has anyone used a Wilwood or similar hanging pedal kit that has some photos they could share of how they mounted them? I've searched but can't seem to find a pic looking from inside the jeep up at where they mount to the firewall.

    2. With 11 inch drums all around and new pedals and MCs will I need a booster? This jeep will be used for some light off roading and some highway driving.

    3. Looking at the Advanced Adapters hydro clutch slave it looks like I'll need to replace the Arm(not sure what this part is called) on the side of the tranny that accepts the slave pushrod. How much of a PITA is that going to be?

    4. What have I gotten myself into?

I know I could find most of the parts cheaper at a boneyard but I'm fairly necrotic when it comes to new parts in such critical areas.
Thanks in advance guys, I'm going out to the garage to skin my knuckles, snap a few bolts, and swear.

I have 11" drums all around on mine with the stock 1970 dual master cylinder. They work fine, but it does take a fair amount of pedal pressure.

Thanks Colo. One thing I forgot to ask, when it comes to brakes does bore size matter on the MC when a slave cylinder isn't used? I know for a hydro clutch you want to mach bore sizes, but what about the brakes?

    Thanks again.

As to the Wilwood pedal setups - I have used two of them. The dual MC for brakes with a Clutch is on a Commando, where as I am using a single brake MC with Clutch on a flattie right now and ready for a '62 5 sometime this year. All of these are hooked either to 11" full setups or Disk Front with 11" rears.

You don't need to replace the arm necessarily, which arm do you have? I would also look at the slave push pulls available from Speedway (that is what I am putting on 2 rigs with a Wilwood on the other. I also have a Novak on a different unit with AA's pedals for now).

Which pedal setups are you thinking about?

The problem with those pedals is there is not enough room to put them close to the stock locations. I prefer the single pedals (one for each, clutch and brake) with thier associated MCs. That setup I have in the Commando, but just is too big to work in the 3s and 5s I mostly do.

I can get you the parts list I am using this evening if you want.

Thanks for the parts list Warloch. Are there any issues using the two different bore sizes for the clutch set up? And wouldn't it be easier to go with a push slave rather than a pull?

Edited to add that I can't seem to find a source for a pitman arm nut. Herm says hit kit comes with a pitman arm though I didn't get one. I ordered one from Rockauto that fits my steering box but I can't find a nut for it. Does anyone have a source online for one? My google-fu is weak.

    Thanks again.

I have not seen any issues, but then I will not be running that setup for a couple weeks yet. It's up to you depending on the level of fab you want to do, but the pull type braket is easier to build than what is needed for the push.
