The lifter may not be holding pressure?

Was going to ask about the PS line from Russell. Did you make them, or a shop? If you did, does the line use normal tools for fitting assembly? I would like to make my own lines, just worked with the Summit AN stuff so far.

I think I'm going to order a set of adjustable push rods from TAP tomorrow. My initial finding is that I'm the victim of a poor head job with the valve stems varying in height resulting in little to no pre-load on some of the lifters. Keep in mind I had only 5 minutes to glance it over tonight and won't have time to look again until Tuesday. You can almost see it in this picture, not sure why I didn't think this was an issue at the time :rofl:mehh:oops: I'm hoping adjustable push rods can take this into account.

Russell Powerflex hose, it was very easy to work with. The fittings are compression fittings and the hose is just an inner teflon line covered with the braid. Cut it with a hacksaw, assemble the fittings and tighten and its done! IIRC I bought the stuff from Summit or Jegs.

Thanks - I have a set of adjustable push rods, they do help if you have issues to see if that fixes it. Try setting them at the stock lengths first to see if that will fix your issues, then go from there. I did eventually replace my rods with stock length, but then I have adjusters on the rockers too.

Pushrods came in yesterday, I haven't had time to mess with that project yet.

Mounted the front bumper and LED lights
    [IMG]

After lots of measuring, clamping, cursing, and help from the wife, we finished mounting the rear wrap. I changed the bearings in the tire carrier and mounted it last night.

Aux. fuse block and relay block mount in place

Another shot of the fuse block. You can also see the solenoid to energize the fuse block

100 amp breaker for the fuse block mounted to the battery hold down

Progress will be slow over the next few weeks. Elk/deer season next weekend, then out of town the weekend after.....

The garage has been rather chilly so it still looks about the same. I'll be starting back up on things here in the next few weeks 8)

Hasn't stopped me. I'm having my SM465 rebuilt. I bought a small heater for the garage for just that. Just throwing out ideas.

Chuck, I used Aeroquip for the lines in my 3B from the pump to the control valve which would be the same as to a power steering box. As far as hydraulic systems go, PS is low pressure and any 1200 psi rated hose should work.

Russel and Aeroquip - thanks guys. I just don't see the ratings when I look for stuff and I know it's a lot more than the fuel pressure I am running in them.

I do have a heater  I've been busy enjoying my other hobby, skiing! I also received a promotion at work so I've been putting in lots of hours there as well. I'm not trying to come up with excuses, honestly I just haven't been that motivated.

Promotions - ugh - I got one last year too (they finally bumped my pay in Sept for it), way too much time working and not enough playing any more... Travel has been a real killer for me.

Its alive! Just drove it around the block!:D Its been running for a few months now but only recently did I install the adjustable pushrods. I timed and tuned the carb but think I can get it better. Here are my settings, let me know what you think:

    Altitude: 6400'
    Base timing: 10*
    Idle: 700 RPM
    Mixture screws: 1 turn out
    Vacuum: steady 13.5-14" in HG
    Main carb jets: .049

I can get the vacuum reading higher by increasing the timing but don't want to get carried away. Any suggestions on this? It idles nicely and has an ever so slight stumble when taking off.

    Still to do:
Troubleshoot the horn short in the new steering column, it sounds the horn when turning the wheel
Wire up relay block, switch panel, and other electrical accessories
    Fab up transmission cover
    CB and antenna install
    Purchase shocks
Fab up new seat mounts for the Corbeau Baja JP seats I ordered last night8)

Very Nice...........Now you can enjoy it a little. Did you change the suspension at all? Still running the stock 1.750" wide springs?..........

Is that the stock 2 barrel carb? Does it have the heavy 50 lb + Flywheel yet?..................sometimes hard to get that stumble out of there.

    Tarry,

Suspension is a 2.5" 4WD Hardware lift. Its fine for the little bit of wheeling that I do, however someday I would like to upgrade to wider springs or Holbrooks.

Carb is a rebuilt Rochester 2G and it does have the heavy flywheel.

That hesitation is more than likely just that little motor trying to move that big centrifugal weight........and that's not really torque as most folks think........more so a form of inertia induced torque , since really the motor is only capable of producing real torque.

Each time you accelerate that weight the motor has to pay the price. If you had a more advanced carb. with some different accelerator pump ramps or different sized pump volumes you can sometimes put a band-aid on that , by adding a little more fuel early.
If your not into rock crawling you would be surprised at how well that little motor responds to a lighter 30-35 lb. flywheel.........and with that SM465 in there with a 6.55 low gear......that's still pretty capable.
I ran my 225 for years off road with the lighter flywheel.

Built the new pivot point and linkage for the overdrive, its tight but works great...and its the only spot I could fit it in.

This is the cardboard mockup of the transmission cover. The gas pedal area is smaller than before, but my boot fits in there fine. The top cover piece is also a bit larger that it will actually be so that will also give me some more room. I'm going to become very proficient with the sewing machine when this is finished since a standard twin stick boot won't fit. I found a triple stick boot, but I don't think that will work either since the OD shifter is not in line with the other sticks.

Finished the transmission cover. I think a small single stick boot will work with the OD shifter and I plan to sew up a vinyl boot for the twin sticks.

I'm at a standstill making a frame for the new seats until I repair a rust spot on the bottom front of the passenger side wheel well. I plan to start that next week.
