install the ujoint ubolts in/on the yoke
insert round shaft thru the cradle created
attach slide hammer to pull from center so you pull both sides evenly
    otherwise
2 hammers at the same time from both sides evenly

I had good luck by using a jaw puller tightened up good and then hitting the center bolt of the puller with a hammer .It usually works . A little viberation helps alot .

When I did mine I had a hell of a time getting that yoke off. Eventually I noticed a large washer was still there (covered with gunk) and was binding on the threads. After that it came off, but was still challenging. I used a good craftsman puller, a pipe wrench to hold the yoke and big wrenches.

    Good luck.

I made this puller years ago for some long-forgotten reason, but I'm going to try it for my yokes. You can hardly see them, but there's 1/4" slots milled in it. I've just got it mocked up here for the photo, so you can see the idea. I'll probably need a different bolt with longer threads.

Our ol' buddy Clay made one and posted it right after he joined us, but I see the photo is gone from his thread. IIRC, it was basically a piece of large, heavy angle iron, with the bolt in the center, and four holes so he could bolt the whole yoke to the plate. He said it worked great! Maybe he'll post the photo again, or someone else has it. I saved it, but I think it's on my PC at work.

Mine was rusted to the pinion shaft, I used a BIG two jaw puller, lots of penetrating oil, and several days of beer and busted knuckles. Bought a new yoke 'cause the was tweeked when it came off. 48 yrs of crud and rust held it on pretty goo.

Yep, you would be surprised what a few good taps every now and then on the center bolt of the puller will do to coax things like that off.
