I'm trying to get my stroker working on propane... The carb setup worked good in FL... it ain't worth a damn in these hills and off camber stuff... so this is over the last 2 weeks...

    kit...
    20 gal fuel cell out...
    hard and soft lines out...
just in case i did need fuel leave a temp fuel line.
    still got some cleaning...

note to self... when you swap axles and do a test run, don't forget the vent tubes...

well had to get an adapter plate for the intake... started to fit everything up before the put together...

also, with the water source i was going to go from the top of the water pump to the block...

    how about this?
How else to make a bracket, scrape steel right?
the old holder from our broken 2K lb winch from harbor freight, my old axle brace and a piece of scrape metal
    [IMG]
    looking good now right?...

tried to get it started tonight, but i'm missing a vaccum hose off of the lockout

if all works out i should try to start her this weekend...

    this is what i gotz...

with the evaporator hooked to the carb i get nothing.. so i brought the scout up to make sure i have vacuum... still nuthing, but at least now it freezez up..

the motor running is the scout's... so why is it taking the gas so long to come out of the evaporater?

WOO HOO !!!! it was suggested to keep the hose length under 6" so i moved everything closer and she fired right up... of course it was in Reverse, so that was pretty exciting to say the least..

other than a couple things it won't be long...

I have been considering a propane conversion on my 78CJ5, but I have been unsuccessful finding much information. The few I have talked to only want me to let them do the conversion, not give me info. So,

where did you get the kit? or did you piece it together yourself?

Is this a straight propane system or can you switch back to gas?

    Thanks
    Jay

Here is a good write up

I'm still looking for a tank that will mount between my frame rails. I think Frank had a good link for that . . .

Looks good ! I had my cj5 run on propane at one point - I got a setup off a old subruban, it was pretty simple to install. I ended up going back to gas because I couldnt figure out the details. The biggest problem I had was the fuel tank - where could I install it in my little jeep and find a tank that'll fit, and a tank that'll hold enough fuel. I didnt want it inside the cab area - and I think its not legal to do that either if it's driven on the street. Other problems - where can I fill up, how can I make my tank "fillable" at this filling station. You know we have to pay tax on propane that's used to be driven on the street. So, Ive seen others use forklift tanks mounted in the cab and go offroading only.

she is pretty much done for now...

this am started with replacing the shifter as i melted the cable to the exhaust last night setting the timing. and it as been under the water and mud so many times it has started to go out lately..
    out with the old
    [IMG]

    in with the new
    [IMG]

of course i needed to bleed the brakes... so i used my christmas present.

then i finished up with the tank mount, i used the 3" flat stock for the underneath.

only going to run one, so Mr. Wrinkles will have room.

oh yeah he got a treat today also.

    motor is tuned

the only thing is a couple times it did back fire and cut off on me, so i guess it's back to the timing light.

I,ve seen motor fuel tanks mounted in the trunk that might fit between the frame rails .Might have more fuel capacity as mileage is not as good with LPG also runs a little hotter .you can get high pressure hose in larger sizes for the fill valve.Impco make all kinds of different carbs .
