I had bought a power steering pump and bracket for my 1971 cj5 with a 225 V6. I tried to mount the bracket to the 3 holes where the power steering should mount however the bracket hits the front dump of the manifold. Is there a bracket that fits on without having to cut the bracket and does not hit the manifold? Need help please. I need all the info for a donor bracket. Thanks

If someone could post a picture of just the bracket I think that would be great.

Don't most use the rear dump exhaust manifold?

You need a "High Mount" Bracket to clear the front dump exhaust manifolds..........should be some pictures of that mount on this site.

Sorry I couldn't find a better picture of the power steering mount, it looks like your alternator bracket.

The mount is from a 1969 Buick Skylark with a Buick 350. I randomly found one on eBay and bought it. Otherwise it is far easier to find the rear dump manifold and rework exhaust.

If I recall correctly, the reason I ran rear dump exhaust is so I could get more room for the steering shaft. I don't remember if the shaft hit the exhaust but that will be dependent on box position and column.

Most go to rear dump exhaust because that front down pipe is going to be right in the way of the steering shaft going to the box.

Here is my rendition of a front dump exhaust with a high mount PS pump. The PS pump and crank pulley came out of a 77 or 78 OLDS Omega with a 231. If you go the route of the high mount make sure you get the crank pulley as not all pumps have a pulley that is compatible. I don't know if there all this way but the crank pulley for my PS belt is a separate pulley that was not welded to the others so it was easy to bolt on. My exhaust does cross over under the front of the oil pan and runs down the pass side frame rail.

can you run Power steering with original steering column? and Ross box, or would I have to change it all up?

The Original column can be removed from the Ross gear box and be re-used in a conventional Saginaw Power Steering conversion...........by doing so it will render the Ross box inoperable. A Ross Steering gear box could never be made into a Power Steering gear box..............Yes for Power.............change it all. Look in the forums here under Saginaw Power Steering , plenty of info.

You can also use a postal Jeep steering column....if you can find one.
They look the same as the stock column, but have a splined shaft on the bottom that's easily adaptable to a Saginaw box.
