FWIW - I decided on this as the solution, at least for now. Its not the original hold-down style for this jeep, but considering the seats I have, its the easiest solution.

thanks for the pics everyone - it helps to see the different solutions.

"Holdowns?? We don't need no steenkin' holdowns!"

I doubt they had one stock. Neither did early CJs.
My M38A1-C has a hardware-store door bolt mounted to the floor, that hooks and holds the base of the rear seat leg. It works. I always figured it was 'aftermarket."

Well, I think this is for the seat latch---------looks like a place for a rubber bumper, and a rectangular hole for the latch hook?????

Just looked again, the M38A1 bolt seems to be factory riveted, despite my earlier guess that they had none. It is exact same place as the one in the picture I linked.

Nothing like that in my M38A1. The passenger seat only has one rear leg, on the inner side. On the outer side, the lower seat-back horizontal registers against the wheel arch, in the angle of it's front face.

My 57 CJ5 has a seat rest bolted to the wheel arch, but it looks nothing like your picture, and there is no latch.
