While completing my Painless Wiring re-wire, I have run into a question, and the Painless tech's didn't answer it to my satisfaction. The kit has 2 wires one for Park Lights and One for Turn Signals. I explained I have 1 set of lights up front that are both park and turn. He said the bulbs should have 2 filimants then, which they don't. Anyone else out there run into this while doing a rewire?

All I can say is I think they are right. For them to work as both park and turn requires 2 filaments. Are your front lights stock? What kind of Jeep? My 67 uses double filaments. Double filament bulbs have the little "tits" on the light bulb offset ("tits" being the little nubs that hold the bulb in the socket). Look at the bulb from the side and one will be higher than the other. Single filament bulbs have both tits at the same level, that way you cannot replace the wrong bulb. If you do have stock housings, maybe someone replaced the socket for the bulb at one time? Replacement sockets are available.

I've never seen a single filament bulb used for both running lights and turn signals.

It's called a bayonet mount. The 2-filament bulb (1157 or 1157A for amber) will have offset pins. One filament will be brighter than the other. You can buy the pigtails or the complete sockets, although some (most?) of the OEM sockets are riveted in.

Thanks for the reply.... I found that the PO cut the wire for the 2nd filament back to the housing..... I would have never found this. One other question on this, did you wire the Hazard switch back up?, the manual does not show how to wire the old hazard type switch instead of the on the column hazard.

The FSM shows the dash mount switch in some of its wiring schematics. Looks like it has 4 terminals, one gets power from the light switch and has a fuse and the flasher in line. The other three go and tie in to the turn signal switch wires. Each individual wire splices to wire....a three way spice.... Looks like one into the brake light circuit, and one each to the front two turn signal circuits (bigger filament, the Turn filament). I personally don't have one, so this is just what I see on the schematic.

Does this hold true for rear lights also?

If you mean the 2 filament bulb, yes it does. The smaller/dimmer filament is the park or running lights, and the bigger/brighter filament is the turn signal/brake lights.
As for the hazards, the one wire connected to the brake circuit would flash both rear lights.

Thanks for the info.... I already wired the Turn signal, so now I have to make a decision, splice into the turn signal wiring, or just use the Hazard on the Turn Signal..... I would need to find something to fill the holes where the hazard switch were if I don't put it back in.
