Ok, when I got my CJ5 nothing worked as it should, the PO had replaced all of the original switches with aftermarket toggles as the originals were seized up. I got everything fixed now and I am puzzled by something that may be a stoopid question.

how does the factory wiper switch work?

I am used to all the way left being off, then 1 click rt would be slow then over right again to be fast. I am doing some voltage readings and it seems as though this original switch is working like the off is a middle position and on is either left or right. cause I get 12v when I turn it one way or the other

how is it supposed to go? Im puzzled.

Mine had 4 positions Off to left slow 1st click right, medium then high. I replaced it with a switch I found that is a direct replacement I found it at http://www.4x4unlimited.net/windshield.htm for around $15.00 This can also be found at radio shack it is just a 4 position riostat, but I cannot remember the ohms on it, plus it would take some cutting and grinding on the shaft of the one that radioshack has.

The '72 manual says you should have a 2-speed wiper system. That's also what I remember from my '73 and '75.

There's a '72 manual online at C104.net that describes the function of the 2-speed wiper system.

My 72 has two speeds. Left off. 1 click right slow 2clicks right fast. Would the power in the off position be for the wiper park mode. Not sure about jeeps but my old ford used power to a seperate feed on the motor which cycled the wipers to the park position and then killed the power internally in the motor.

Yes. The manual says you should have two ground wires and one hot wire, plus the chassis ground. You need power to the motor all the time in order to have the park feature.
