I'm thinking its a ford because of the 5 mounting bolts, although I didn't know that ford knuckles had the flat spot for highsteer. So possibly late model ford spindle.

Just a guess at this point.

so far from the few folks i have talked to it might be a chevy axle with ford outers... but so far (only 2 axles) that i've looked at 1 chevy and 1 ford they both were 6 lug for the spindle... ooops. make that 3... Jeep 44 has 6 lugs also...

    thanks though...

Yep, I thought all chevy, jeep, dodge, and scouts had the same 6 bolt pattern and only the fords had the odd 5 bolt pattern. I could be wrong.R)

Have you checked out Mr N's dana 44 web pages? Lots of info on there about axles.

It's definitely a Ford spindle. Be aware though that there are different depths on the back side of the spindle. If you need a new/used one, get the # of the edge of the flange where it bolts to the knuckle if still readable to make sure you get the correct one. Ford was/is notorious for making slight changes to the spindles every couple of years. Nickmil.

Would be my first thought. I can't remember what year that would be though. It's been a while since I have worked on any ford axles. I have heard of people using late model Ford outers on the Chevy 44 to make them stronger.

The whole knuckle is from an F-250 with Dana 44 HD. The outer axle stub is most likely also Ford as a Chevy stub won't fit without shortening. Look for a 79 or older F250 for parts as the 80 and newer went to a TTB setup that won't interchange.
