Not much demand for these axles. Likely you can get a spare for free or scrap prices. Remove the case and take it to a welder. Look in your local Jeep/4x4 forums - there will be local guys doing fab work. Or ask at your local Jeep club.

May be obvious - don't weld up a PowrLock. Find an open axle.

You're going to need one especially if you plan on building a jeep. A buzz box and 7014's work pretty good.

Buy a tombstone welder from Craig's List or wherever. Weld it up.

Driving on rutted pavement with a spool or welded rear differential sucks. Been there done that. If strictly off road then It can be ok, pretty predictable. Also done that.

Have you thought of a Powr Lok? They are brutally strong, available, and work very well.

I second this. I really like having traction off road, but I really like NOT performing trail repairs more when a locker takes out a u-joint in the weak Dana25/27. My plan is a PowerLok front/detroit rear.

i just dont like the price. yes, i know it's worth it, and yes, its relatively cheap, but i can't bring myself to spend that much monwy on a locker.
i totally agree with this. maybe i should start making my spools...

I know. :) Detroit or lockright/spartan is my recommendation for your rear axle. That or learn to weld and bubba it.

 Welded plenty of them, and I can’t imagine beating them any harder. Never had a failure. Preheat/post heat is important.
