Thanks for the replies..a started before it already has the 12v upgrade... But I don't think it was done right and has the points. I don't want points and I want it running.....

No cover in the cowl which means the body is newer then 64. But several of the other components points to earlier then when Chrysler took over early seventies.... I compared each year and 65 is the closest body etc wise....

Yes my springs and shackles do point to earlier..... That's the confusing part....

I found a early good site in the hurricane and realized its downfall... The exhaust ports being in the block therefore there is no way to try to find out create a new head for it to make it better.....

A for getting a newer one.. I like the shorter mouse. I think it looks more proportionate.. And I already have it... As for upgrades of I can find a newer jeep and get it... I could swap thinks over. Saw one yesterday with touted frame for $450.... But could not make it there until next weekend and it sold last night already now.... Oh and I am getting to like the idea of the hard top for the winter and that would not fit in a newer keep either.... I will post a new thread later with several photos of the jeep as it does in the barn at my exes house right now and two if a hero that is very similar to how I want to do mine... Thanks

Chrysler didn’t take over jeep until 1987 after the Wrangler was designed and 1st built.

Yep. 134 L head first used in the 1926 Whippet and I'm going to guess a lot of that rotating assembly will directly bolt into an F head. My late father's second car (first was a Model T) was that 26 Whippet. He didn't care much for it and bought a 27 Chevy a year later. This was in the mid 30's.

A lot a valid points in the above discussion. As noted, very few power boosters available to significantly up the F head horsepower short of forced induction and those don't have much of a history staying together for too long. In short, if you actually want something dependable and that will keep up with modern traffic, it will need an engine swap. And at that point, it's almost always much, much, much cheaper to just buy another Jeep that has what you want. I would think for your needs a 72-75 would be near perfect, 4" longer or not. Adequate HP, real brakes, nice Saginaw steering, good axles, better transmissions, and electric wipers. Even the heaters sort of work. In my opinion, the only real downside was the crummy low range in the D20.

All that said, I haven't owned anything that puts a bigger smile on my face than driving my 3B. But I don't even want to think how many dollars have been parked there over 40 something years.

Even though I customized my Tux, it is mostly stock. The things I changed was a matter of personal taste, nothing mechanical was changed. Driving it is still the way it was built, a farm implement with a license plate. I enjoy taking off in first gear and shifting two second at 10 mph, then pulling it up to 20 mph and going into high, and cruising at 45-50 mph enjoying the antique mechanics of a time gone by. As a kid in High School, 1964, my buddy's dad bought two Jeeps with plows on them for his lawn care business. My friend Jim and his sister got to drive them to High School when there was no snow to plow. We had so much fun it that brand new CJ 5, just riding around, we would go into Detroit and go into the industrial areas along the river front where the trucks would have the roads all beat up and bounce down the old roads and laugh out loud. Jeeps are Jeeps, just fun to play with. Just Saying, it still makes me smile, Good Luck.
