I need a "new" heater control panel for my 1974 CJ5. It is the one that "hangs" down below the dash. Anyone know of a possible source? A month of searching the net has come up with zip!

I am not real hopeful that I will be able to secure a "new" one so I am also looking into "repairing" the "old" one. The problem is that the plastic tab on the back of the panel that mount the support arm that goes to the firewall has broken of at the hole. Has anyone "rebuilt" this tab using something like JB Weld? And if so, how did it work out?

The panel is NLA, and no aftermarket sources. I've been looking for two years. However, there are jeep specific junkyards. I know of one in Sacramento, and have heard of others in other parts of the country, I just can't find the links. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I suspect that with a decent plastic specific epoxy and a little reinforcement your old one could be repaired. Its worth a try, because time spent searching for a new one is wasted.

Someone buy them and post pics. I bet for $24 the original 72 style heater switch that was part of the cable is not included

Try "Montana Overland" or "J & W Auto Wreckers.
If these don't work out, try "Obsolete Jeep and Willys Parts, Div Florida 4-Wheel Drive and Truck Parts,6110 17th St. East, Bradenton, FL 34203. 941-756-7844. No website. They advertise in Hemmings.
I think the style was used '73 to '75.
    Did you try Crown Automotive?

Yes, that's the one with the plastic panel and the toggle switch.

Apparently the '72 has a (twist?) switch built into the cable. The knobs and panel are also different - plain black knobs and a steel panel IIRC. Is this the same as the '71 or earlier? Quite a few changes happened in '71 - did they change the heater or heater control?

I re-hanged mine under the dash without the bracket that goes back to the firewall...it is just attached to dash bottom. It is doing fine so far...though I pretty much never use the controls.

74 and 75 should use the same panel. The lost years of the intermediates. Did Collins Bros have a panel for a 75? If so, I'm on it!

73-74-75 are the same. 76-on has the controls in the dash IIRC. 72 is also different.

Sadly, it appears as if Collins Bros is another false lead, at least as far as A NOS panel is concerned. They seem to be fixated on the 76-86 CJ's. I didn't check for a used one from them though, I'll eventually find a used one locally, I'm sure.

I made my own for my 75 using a piece of Aluminum angle from Lowes and pull cables from 76 and after Jeep. Some of the cables are a little longer then needed but it doesn't effect anything. I had a custom dash made previously with cut-outs for the blower motor switch so I did not need to mount a switch. (I also closed off my cowl vent so I have only 2 cables) Has worked great for me. Not really great for a pure restore, but functional and looks good
